An Israeli soldier from the Golani Brigade committed suicide inside a northern military base, Israeli media reported on September 1, bringing the number of troop suicides this year to 18.
He was found dead at the base, according to public broadcaster KAN.
Israeli military police launched an investigation with the findings to be reviewed by the military prosecution once completed.

The Global Sumud Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and pro-Palestinian activists, including Swedish environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg, departed Barcelona again on September 1 after being forced back by strong winds hours earlier.
The flotilla, consisting of around 20 boats with participants from 44 countries, set out from the Spanish city on August 31, aiming to open a humanitarian corridor to Gaza and end the ongoing Israeli assault. But it was forced back to port after a storm hit parts of Spain overnight.
Organisers stressed safety after gusts exceeded 55 kilometres per hour, noting smaller boats were most at risk.
The flotilla is expected to arrive in Gaza in mid-September, after Israel blocked two earlier attempts to deliver aid by ship in June and July.

To show solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla, the largest yet to set sail to break Israel’s illegal siege on Gaza, South Africans gathered at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg on August 31.
Since Israel launched its attack on the Gaza on October 2023, South Africa has maintained a firm stance, expressing support for the Palestinians, including filing a case at the ICJ, accusing Israel of genocide.
As a part of the Sumud flotilla, participants from more than 40 countries will board boats carrying humanitarian aid, aiming to break the blockade and deliver urgent relief to Gaza.
