SPELLLING has captivated audiences with her genre-defying albums and enchanting live performances. Her 2017 debut, Pantheon of Me, showcased her talent as a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. After signing to Sacred Bones, she released Mazy Fly in 2019, further expanding her sonic vision. SPELLLING's breakthrough came with 2021's The Turning Wheel, a self-produced opus featuring 31 collaborators that earned widespread acclaim, including The Needle Drop's #1 album of the year. In 2023, SPELLLING reimagined tracks from her discography, unveiling new dimensions to her extravagant orchestrations. 2025 marks the release of her deeply personal fourth album, Portrait of My Heart, a collection of love songs blending raw emotion with her singular voice and innovative arrangements. SPELLLING’s ability to craft immersive soundscapes and transcendent performances continues to solidify her place as a groundbreaking artist.

Today, I'm excited to share another single & music video for "Destiny Arrives" from my forthcoming album, 'Portrait of My Heart', out March 28th via @bonesrecords! On "Destiny Arrives" melancholy guitars hint at quieter moments, set against rippling synth-lines for a crescendoing prog-epic, connecting the dots between the lavish orchestration of previous album 'The Turning Wheel' and the direct, open-heartedness found elsewhere on forthcoming offering 'Portrait of My Heart'. The accompanying video was directed by none other than Ambar Navarro! Watch it now!

"This was the first track written for the album. I love that it is a kind of merging point of the nature of songs on ‘The Turning Wheel’ with the more punchy and groovy palette of stuff on ‘Portrait of my Heart’. I wanted to have some moments on this album like on ‘The Turning Wheel’ that honor my love of strings and the whimsical, romantic Stevie Wonder ‘Secret Life of Plants’ style synth theatrics. I’m really happy those elements of SPELLLING get to shine on this track. Destiny Arrives kind of acts as this sweet moment of purity and optimism amongst the more punchy and aggressive songs on Portrait of My Heart." - SPELLLING

My new single is out today!

On "Alibi" I’m tapping into the almost kind of comedic and hysteric relief that kicks in when you make it out of the other side of a toxic relationship. Once the spell is broken and clarity restores good sense there’s just this buoyancy to life that lets you laugh at the absurdities. This is one of those songs that sprung up on me out of nowhere in a super bold and in my face way. Sometimes I like to deliberately withhold recording ideas to make sure that it's contagious enough to stick in just my memory. This is one that stuck for so long to the point that I was like yes, let me follow through with it and see what I can do.

Listen to "Alibi" now available across all streaming platforms!

We’re thrilled to announce ‪‪@spellling‬ ‬ 's new album Portrait of My Heart, out March 28th, 2025. Available on multiple vinyl variants & cd

Portrait of My Heart is the sharpest, most direct SPELLLING album to date, and its immediacy emphasizes the essential mutability of Cabral’s practice. Pre-save the album and take a step into SPELLLING’s world through the title track today!

The single “Portrait of My Heart” is the spiritual core of the record - with an infectious earworm of a chorus over chugging rhythm guitar and an exuberant keyboard line, the opening track reigns in a new and intimate era for SPELLLING. With its propulsive drum groove and anthemic chorus of “I don’t belong here,” it is the most potent embodiment of the album’s turn toward emotional directness. Once the main melody emerged, Cabral used the song as a tool to process her anxiety as a performer and opted for a tighter, more rock-oriented composition. This transformation mirrors the album’s broader shift toward energy and immediacy, driven by the core band of Wyatt Overson (guitar), Patrick Shelley (drums), and Giulio Xavier Cetto (bass), whose collaboration uncovers new contours of the SPELLLING sound. Cabral still writes and demos in isolation, but presenting the songs for Portrait of My Heart to her bandmates helped her discover their eventual lively, organic forms. So did working with a trio of producers — The Turning Wheel mixing engineer Drew Vandenberg, SZA collaborator Rob Bisel, and Yves Tumor producer Psymun.

Portrait of My Heart is also shaped significantly by its guest musicians. Chaz Bear (Toro y Moi) sings on “Mount Analogue,” the first true duet in the SPELLLING discography. Turnstile guitarist Pat McCrory turns Cabral’s original piano demo for “Alibi” into the crunchy, riff-y version that appears on the record, while Zulu’s Braxton Marcellous gives “Drain” its sludgy heft. These parts aren’t just incorporated seamlessly into the album; they feel like an integral part of its universe.
