Jim Armstrong and channel background: The majority of videos in this channel involve detailed evaluations of outdoor products such as flashlights and headlamps. I perform Search and Rescue as a private contractor and my focus is wilderness night operations. Reviews focus on actual field use of each product from a Search and Rescue perspective. Many reviews are performed over the course of several months and more than one video; they feature extensive use of products in realistic settings.
I an ex-bodyguard and volunteered for the Carrollton, TX PD from 2014 to 2023. I also volunteer for the Denton Police Academy and the US Forest Service, specializing in the LBJ Grasslands in Alvord, TX. Much of my personal views on gear are from a LE and private Security perspective. I have trained with a (NAD) Force Recon Marine in both executive protection and SAR Ops since 2014.
I am also a drone pilot and action videographer.

Recently uploaded a couple of new member-only videos for the SAR Team. OLight had an impressive showing at the NRA 2024 Annual Meeting in Dallas. I shot some 4K HDR clips. If you are an OLight fan and have a display capable of displaying HDR content (REC 2020/1000-nit), then you should like this one. There will be a lot of 4K/HDR content in the future. I also started the first in a series of 'what's in the kit' videos. This one answers questions about my mobile videography rigs. Future videos will cover various load outs, specific gear for specific purposes, etc.

I'm in the process of completing a long move to a new apartment. It's taken about three weeks to complete the move (a little each day) and cleaning of the old apt. I go on vacation next week. So, of course, I'm behind on product reviews. I want to avoid what happened last year when my elderly mother took a bad fall and a month of delays caused a very large backlog. In addition to a slower release schedule, I'm going to get caught back up before accepting anything new for review. Sorry for the slowdown in activity on the channel. Thank you.

I've added a post here to discuss how to match use cases and budget to particular lighting systems. Some of these discussions have been started inside reviews. Those discussions may be of interest to others and outside the sphere of a particular product review. So, I'm hoping it will be more helpful to a larger number of people to have a thread devoted to this topic outside of specific product reviews. The goal here is to help people get the best light for 'their' use. This is not an area for fanboys or haters. On a personal basis, I am not an advocate, ambassador, enthusiast, fanboy, or hater of any particular brand. Ask your questions here.
