In this weeks video on my YouTube channel, I find myself at the seaside on a bright sunshine day although nowhere near warm enough to break out the swimming shorts and towels 🙂 I've read that Black & White long exposures are a good genre to explore on a day like this, so that is exactly what I choose to have a go at.

Exactly one week ago, I was dodging rain showers in North Wales and scrambling over wet rocks at a location called Fairy Glen. To position ourselves for this view was not the most comfortable, but the result was well worth it!

It's a Sigma selfie shivering in the wind!



Our final location for the North Wales trip - Dolbadarn Castle near the town of Llanberis. We timed the visit just right with some lovely warm sunlight playing across one side of the remains, however the wind was howling up here! A firm hand was on a tripod leg at all times to prevent a silly wind blown accident 🙂

It's a Sigma selfie looking at Snowdon!



High altitude snow had fallen overnight (we were expecting something as we'd driven home the previous evening through snow showers), however when we got to the layby just past Plas y Brenin we were greeted with a view of the Snowdon horseshoe coated in white and near perfect reflections in Llynau Mymbyr. To put icing on the cake the low sun broke through the clouds painting pieces of the hills in front of us with light! Fortune smiled on the righteous today :)

No Sigma BF camera should be abused this way!

With a weather forecast of rain, strong winds, and a chance of snow we chose our locations carefully electing to go to a quarry called Rhiw Fachno to the South of Betws-y-Coed. As we parked up snow showers swept in coating everywhere in a thin blanket of white. Undeterred we headed into the abandoned quarry workings anyway and had a very fruitful couple of hours. I'm pretty sure that the CEO of Sigma, Mr Yamaki, did not intend the BF to be used in such brutal conditions but it held up very well and did everything I asked of it. And yes, before anyone asks I wiped the camera and lens down carefully between scenes to remove any surface moisture.

It's Sigma selfie erm... Monday!

Fortunately the weather forecast for today improved and we had a day where we almost didn't get rained on - just a light sprinkling this morning. However, we spent waaaay too long looking for this darned lone tree on Llyn Padarn and if it wasn't for a couple of very helpful locals in Llanberis we might have given up looking for it! Unfortunately the winds had picked up considerably by the time we found it, but there was no way we were going to give up on trying to capture an image of it!

By popular demand Sigma selfie Sunday is back!

Away for a few days in North Wales, and with the weather today forecast to be a challenge we kept things local visiting Swallow Falls just outside Betws-y-Coed. The water volume and noise was impressive to say the least, and here I made full use of the reach of the Sigma 20-200mm DG lens to get in close and look for smaller, more intimate scenes in the falling water.

I was a bit late to the Aurora party this evening, foiled partly by 70% low cloud everywhere. However around 11pm the skies cleared and although I couldn't see it with my own eyes, the camera certainly did :)

Happy 2026 everyone! Hope everyone had a good festive season, and is looking forward to a photographically productive New Year. I took a little bit of a social media break, but the YouTube schedule trundles on, this time with seaside outing looking to make the most of the sea patterns interacting with the shoreline.
