I’ve decided to start calling piano rolls “records” again — because they are recordings.
Did you know RCA successfully sued to stop other companies from using the word “record” and "recording"?
Another fact:
Claude Debussy recorded 14 of his own works in 1905. But when RCA won their lawsuit in the 1930's all of the tracks lost the ability to be called a "recording" or a "record". Don't worry, I have 10 of the 14 coming to the channel.
