This is a page from my sketchbook I’ve brought with me to Malaysia for 3 months. The paper isn’t really meant for watercolors but it can handle it to some extent. It allows me to draw or sketch when I want to and paint a little when I want to.

Something I’m guaranteed to see here every day are clouds. Figured I’d might as well try to paint some.

I feel like mundane things more easily make good art.
The more beautiful the scene or place, the more my paintings tend to 'fail'.
Either that or sometimes I just don't know what I'm doing. And that's probably true.

It was rare to get a cloudy day during the summer and autumn months at Folsom Lake in California. I had seen only blue sky and sun for so long that I actually wanted clouds for a change. I was lucky to get a couple of paintings with clouds. This is one of them. Turned out to be one of my favorite paintings.

There’s just something cool about a giant pile of rocks. Makes you think how long have they been there like that. How long will they stay like that? How many people have been here before me? And it’s just fun trying to make an interesting design from them. What do you think about rocks?
