It's good that they're expanding the options and everything, but not at the expense of the specialist DM players who have been active in the community for years. DM's top players list is quite different to RM's, whereas the top lists for EW and RM is pretty much the same. Push all 3 :)

DM should have its own queue, just like on voobly. I donāt like DM and donāt want it as an option, but that doesnāt mean there are not players who like DM. Empire Wars is similar to RM and can be included occasionally. It can be in the rotation.

Having both as an option dilutes the player pool, and having a deep player pool is crucial to setting up quality matches.

Combine RM Ranked with Empire Wars and have DM have its own option since it's inherently massively different. Empire Wars is just RM with an advanced start, 4X games do this usually all the time.

Both or neither, a big problem in having too many modes would be a fragmented player-base. Most Age of Empires players don't even touch ranked so there's an argument for random map only

On a completely different note. Would you be able to post a ārescue my gameā scenarios? This would be where people send you their own saved games that they just have been unable to win against extreme AI and you have ārescueā the game by winning it. Reason for this is that I have a saved point in my own game where Iāve tried countless things to win but have never managed to win even though I have the first castle, decent economy and all the relics (no relic timer). Im brits vs Malay. Just thought it would be an interesting challenge/series. Btw love your videos keep it up!

What they could do is have a rotating set of formats available in ranked. One week empire wars, another week deathmatch

I think another approach would have been to add EW on map X as an option in the RM map pool. The benefit of this approach is they could have measured the community sentiment through star/ban count of the EW option to better inform their next decision. EW as a separate ladder might split the RM pool too much, decreasing match quality in both RM and EW. I feel for the DM community to have this happen right after DM world cup. I'm hoping it will be easy enough to find DM games in unranked.

It's a positive change in my opinion though only time will tell. I understand the backlash surrounding the whole topic. Given the game's extensive history, there are a lot of people who are against changing the status quo. There are both good arguments for and against the change, but, to my mind, such changes should be welcomed so long as they're progressive and accept constructive criticism rather than being definitive and permanent. The game could be better or it could be worse after the changes. We should keep an open mind and give feedback accordingly

In my opinion i understand why they are removing DM from the ladder. After checking AOE2.net stats there have been around 600 players playing DM 1vs1 games in the last week compared to the over 32000 players who have played at least one 1vs1 RM game. Sadly DM has always been a niche community along with the CS one, but i guess they could at least try to have a ranked ladder for the 3 modes rather than just getting rid of it.

I've never played the game so I'll go with [your personal preference here]. Out of all the options available, I believe that will make the most players happy, especially the potential problems that would come with the other options

I don't really get the whole fragmentation argument as I don't see DM & EW as competing game modes. EW is far, far closer to RM and more likely to share players with that pool than to detract from the DM community.

I don't play either but seems dumb not to have both as an option. Also having just random would be dumb, that's like arguing for not being able to cross off maps from the pool. Which I love doing because fuck island maps Except you nomad I luv u
