Over the past few weeks, while recovering from a concussion, I’ve received so many messages about how I’ve been showing up not just physically, but mentally.
And here’s the truth:
If I can’t lift weights right now, I’ll walk.
If I can’t train like I used to, I’ll stretch.
Not because it’s the same physically but because every small action builds the muscle that matters most: character.
I’ve been through some sh*t over the last decade.
Dark seasons. Loss. Setbacks.
But somehow, I always found a way to rise not because I had the perfect game plan, but because I fell in love with progress.
Even 0.001% progress.
When you stop waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect mood, the perfect motivation…
And start taking imperfect action you begin to change who you are at the core.
That’s when transformation actually sticks.
If I can only shoot 100 light basketball shots now instead of full training sessions I’ll take it.
If I’m tired, groggy, or not in the mood I still show up.
Because showing up trains your brain to stop negotiating with your excuses.
Most people don’t fail because of the workout or nutrition plan.
They fail because their mindset isn’t anchored.
And that’s the real secret: Wanting to get better no matter what.
Not perfect. Not always motivated. Just consistent enough to stay in the game.
Treat your fitness like the stock market it’ll have dips.
Your weight will fluctuate.
But if you don’t quit, the trend will go in the right direction.
Play the long game.
Fall in love with who you’re becoming, not just a number on the scale.
