Thursday 8.21.25, ~ 730a, walking at Juno Beach, we came to what looked like a harmless little creek feeding into the ocean. We were only in an inch of water, so we didn't think twice about trying to step over it. But the moment we did, we sank in over our waists. It felt like quicksand pulling us under, and a powerful current was dragging us out to sea. With every wave, more water piled into the "river," increasing the force. We were crawling on our hands and knees, fighting to get out, but we were caught. Luckily, a local surfer saw us struggling and came to our rescue. I’m sharing this because it's a critical safety warning: Never try to cross those small "rivers" that form on the beach. They might look harmless, but they are incredibly dangerous rip currents in disguise. They are called "outlet channels" and can pull you under and out to sea in a second. Our lucky escape could have been a tragedy. Please, be careful out there.
