Last place I worked at: they had a small 3 rack data center doing video transcoding and running their business ops. They under-sized/purchased a minisplit system for the DC. Company that quoted them had no idea how much heat they would end up generating (my guess). It ran OK, monthly-manual thaw cycles, except in the winter when it would ice up weekyl because of the refrigerant delta. (Funny that professional DC A/C's will use a heater in the outdoor unit to keep the coils from freezing). We ended up ducting another pipe outside to suck out the hot air, and another pipe to supplement the cold aisle. They didn't bother adding any kind of incoming filter, so I have no idea how stuffed up the machines ended up getting. Huge difference in dust content from when I started until when I left though.
