Mindfulness encompasses two key ingredients: awareness and acceptance. Awareness is the knowledge and ability to focus attention on one’s inner processes and experiences, such as the experience of the present moment. Acceptance is the ability to observe and accept—rather than judge or avoid—those streams of thought. The goal of mindfulness is to cultivate perspective on one’s consciousness and identity that can bring greater peace mentally and relationally. Mindfulness may also be used in mindfulness-based therapies, to address stress, anxiety, or pain, and simply to become more relaxed. Through mindfulness, you can examine identifying the root cause of your stress and deconstructing it, poking holes in an automated program that doesn’t serve you, you’ve begun to alter the mental code. You find yourself becoming incrementally less stressed until, eventually, your mind stops being programmed for anxious thinking. There are four aspects of the mind. According to Vedic texts, our mind possesses four different aspects or capacities that work together to bring about the correct functioning of our mind. These are our manas, our ahamkara, our Buddhi(Mercury), and our chitta. The main aspect is our Buddhi or Mercury. The Buddhi(Mercury) part or the quality of inner knowing is our great wise counselor, the one living in close proximity to the main 'palace' or 'tower' in the walled city, or, if you prefer it, to our soul. As such, it is the part of our mind that, armed with raw power in the form of supreme intelligence, helps us make highly informed decisions. Indeed, our Buddhi is a more refined sense of knowing, one existing in such close proximity to our main source or inner self that it can almost know reality exactly as it is. Yet, our ability to access or hear our Buddhi is rather weak; and so its wise advice is often muffled by the loud chit-chatter of our extroverted manas. Who is Chi Vital?
