China has reached another milestone on its path to the moon. On August 15, engineers successfully carried out a ground test of the Long March 10 rocket’s first-stage propulsion system at Wenchang, firing seven YF-100K engines that produced nearly 1,000 tons of thrust, a new national record.
This achievement is part of a broader roadmap for a crewed lunar landing, which also includes testing the Mengzhou spacecraft’s escape system, validating the Lanyue lunar lander, and unveiling next-generation lunar spacesuits. Together, these steps show a methodical approach, validating each link in the mission chain rather than rushing to a single breakthrough.
With the Long March 10 test complete, China’s lunar ambitions are moving beyond planning into tangible engineering progress, bringing its goal of landing astronauts on the moon closer to reality.

Unitree Robotics Targets $7B IPO, Signaling China’s Big Bet on Humanoid AI
China’s humanoid robotics leader, Unitree Robotics, is preparing for an IPO that could value the company at 50 billion yuan ($7B)—one of the largest tech listings in recent years.
Founded in 2016, Unitree has quickly risen to prominence with its humanoid robots that can walk, climb, and even perform synchronized dances on national TV. Backed by heavyweights like Alibaba, Tencent, and Geely, the company has already surpassed 1 billion yuan in annual revenue and confirmed profitability.
The IPO, planned for the Shanghai STAR Market, underscores Beijing’s push to make robotics and AI central to its strategy for technological leadership. It also comes as China looks to revive its IPO market and keep its most valuable “unicorns” listed domestically.
For investors, Unitree’s debut will be a test of confidence in humanoid robotics, a field blending AI, automation, and hardware at the forefront of global competition.

Alibaba Reportedly Developing New AI Chip as Xi Rejects “Cold War Mentality”
Alibaba is moving deeper into AI hardware, reportedly developing a new chip to power its cloud services, part of China’s broader push to reduce reliance on U.S. semiconductors. The move comes as Washington tightens export restrictions on Nvidia’s most advanced chips, while Beijing doubles down on self-sufficiency in strategic technologies.
At the same time, President Xi has called for rejecting a “Cold War mentality” in AI, urging global cooperation over rivalry. Still, the U.S.–China tech race continues to shape a multipolar AI future.
