Join hosts Kallie Moore, Michelle Barboza-Ramirez, Gabriel Santos, and Blake de Pastino as they take you on a journey through the history of life on Earth. From the dawn of life in the Archaean Eon through the Mesozoic Era — the so-called “Age of Dinosaurs” -- right up to the end of the most recent Ice Age.

This year we're celebrating handmade holidays with a logo shirt that our hosts Kallie and Gabriel designed by hand! For the best chance of delivery by 12/25, we recommend ordering by 12/8. complexly.store/products/eons-handmade-logo-shirt
For the "E" design, Kallie took inspiration from extinct North American primate Ekgmowechashala. The "O" is a crinoid stem segment, also known as sea lilies, which are still around today, much to the delight of young Kallie who used to collect them! In the style of a scientific drawing, the specimen depicted is from the Carboniferous of Texas.
Gabriel drew the "N" and "S" designs. The "N" is a trace fossil with a trilobite and trackways, while the "S" shows ripple marks-- geological features that tell us about ancient water movement.

Happy Evolution Day! Today we celebrate the first publication of On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin #OTD in 1859. And while the initial print run of 1,250 copies sold out on the first day...it actually wasn't his best selling book during his lifetime. That honor goes to The Formation of Vegetable Mould Through the Action of Worms (1881) - which we did an episode on!

It's a holiday week here at Eons because this Wednesday is National Fossil Day! This year's official artwork represents the John Day Fossil Beds in OR. Fossils from John Day were part of episodes Eons344: How Weasels Got Skinny (https://youtu.be/n8xL5OoKhcA) and Eons321: What Happened To Primates In North America? (https://youtu.be/WNL9Jp9oeYA). We also mention this site in Eons515: How a Supervolcano Made the Cenozoic’s Coolest Fossils (https://youtu.be/2ofNufZVcMU). #NationalFossilDay2025

#OTD in 1999 Walking With Dinosaurs first premiered in the UK on BBC One. The six-part series was a landmark in science documentary filmmaking, using CGI and animatronics to depict prehistoric life. Then, just a few months ago, 25 years after the original, a reimagining of the iconic series premiered. It uses state-of-the-art visual effects and the latest research to reconstruct how these iconic creatures lived and died.
