"Nightwing: Escalation" is a fan-made non-profit web series honoring DC Comics, produced by Alex Valderana, which ran for 3 seasons (2011–late 2019) before ending due to the pandemic. The story follows Dick Grayson/Nightwing (Johnny Caballero) as he steps up to protect Gotham in Batman's absence. Following Grayson's assassination, the city descends into chaos and Barbara Gordon (Katalena Mermelstein) must embrace the mantle of Nightwing. The series gained attention for casting horror icon David Howard Thornton (Terrifier) as The Joker. In Season 3, Valderana became showrunner, handing directing duties to other NYC filmmakers. Actor Kristen Seavey notably directed the all-female spinoff mini-series, "Catwoman: Ataraxia."
