It is certainly an utter failure of the vast majority of real-deal Christian leaders, as opposed to the vast array of flagrant "christian" frauds and opportunistic predators, to address not only concerns and questions from their flocks, but also to instill critical thinking skills. *EVERYONE* should know *what* they believe, and they should also know *why* they believe what they do. You can definitely thank the intentional destruction of all those extremely important logic and reasoning skills (along with basic math, writing and reading skills - "the three R's") in both private and public education first and foremost.
Atheism, in general, is so "soul-suckingly" unsatisfying for any real answers to existential questions. My "basic" thoughts on it are too long for a comment:
How do you spot a genuine son of God? It's a love for real truth, not this "manufactured, overly processed, fake truth." The processed food metaphors are apropos... Truly, I believe that the test for salvation is fourfold: chastisement (Heb. 12:5-11), being hated by the world (John 15:18-19), having the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23), and the Love of the Truth (2 Thes. 2:10). God only disciplines his sons. Rom. 5:5 - God uses US to Demonstrate Truth!
I'm reading through Leviticus. In 15:19-33 specifically: the woman that has an *issue* of blood and everything she touches is defiled and becomes unclean. The entire chapter definitely speaks to the defilement of sin that Adam and Eve experienced in a way I had never seen before...
What really struck me is how absolutely monumental the accounts in Matt. 9:20-22; Mark 5:25-34; and Luke 8:43-48, just mentioned "in passing," of the woman with the issue of blood really are. EVERYTHING she touched or sat on was unclean! So, she's straight-up broke and at her wit's end, but after hearing people talk about this man from Nazareth, of all places, that is miraculously healing and raising people from the dead in every town around she develops this laser focused belief that if she can just brush the clothes of Jesus she will be completely healed.
It's astonishing that she had a special love and respect for Jesus in that moment that isn't readily apparent. "Oh my goodness, am I really healed???!! The Pharisees mentioned this crazy passage out of Leviticus in synagogue last sabbath about nasty, ill women bleeding all over the place and DEFILING everything! The Lord is going to be defiled! I can't tell anyone, he will be so angry!"
Her heart sinks as he whirls around, "Who touched me??"
Then, the disciples pipe up, "What in the world are you talking about, Lord?! There's thousands of people here! Give it a rest, man!"
Nope, Jesus isn't going to let it go. But, He says something fascinating: "I perceive that VIRTUE is gone out from me." It was this incredibly powerful Virtue that intrinsically belonged to Jesus that went into this woman's body and HEALED her instantly.
This speaks to the spiritual circumcision in Col. 2:9-15 in that the Holy Spirit (Jesus's garment! OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS!) is able to cut that filthy, nasty, defiled flesh loose with supernatural surgical precision from the spirit and soul by grace THROUGH faith without being defiled Himself.
[Isaiah 53:5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. [6] All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
In Leviticus 15:28-30 there is not only a waiting period, but sacrifices for the ATONEMENT of BEING SICK that must be made!
"Well, a 'truly loving God' wouldn't require sacrifice for someone getting sick. That's not their fault!" The "all-knowing" intellectuals shout from the balcony.
So, what's really going on here?
Sin is a hemorrhagic fever. It's the "gigachad" cousin of Ebola and rots us away from the inside out even as we slowly tromp through the waist-deep swamp of the world on a daily basis. Suddenly, gangrene shows up in our open, seeping wounds that absolutely reek with an otherworldly stench that could peel paint off the walls. We get this immediate view from God's perspective at the top of the mountain of how vile and disgusting sin really is. The ONLY solution to a 100% fatal diagnosis is a miraculous healing!
We see this same miracle today with someone who places a singular faith in the death, burial and Resurrection of Jesus for that ATONEMENT when that defiled sin fountain of our blood is *stanched* and we receive that Virtue directly from the Lord.
Jesus doesn't let her disappear back into the crowd. She gives public testimony of the miraculous healing!
Then, the Word, full of grace and truth, says these words: "Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace."
We can rest in that hope: we can ONLY be made whole by faith in that precious Blood of Christ for the atonement of our universal issues of blood: Sin. We have peace with God when we are made whole.
