Gary Hinzman is a mayoral candidate for Cedar Rapids in 2017. Previously he served as the Director of the Sixth Judicial District of Iowa, Department of Correctional Services and the Community Corrections Improvement Association, President of the American Parole and Probation Association, the director of the police academy and as chief of police for the city of Cedar Rapids. He is a Vietnam-era veteran, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Mount Mercy University and a master’s of public administration degree from Iowa State University. In his numerous leadership roles, Hinzman accomplished many programs and initiatives for Cedar Rapids, including the establishment and administration of the nonprofit foundation, the Community Corrections Improvement Association.
