Con operaciones desde el año 1859, CAEI es el productor de azúcar de mayor tradición de la República Dominicana, y el segundo en términos de volumen de producción.
El centro de operaciones está ubicado en la provincia de San Pedro de Macorís, donde tiene el central azucarero y las oficinas administrativas. En el Ingenio Cristóbal Colón se procesa la caña propia como la comprada a terceros.
