Welcome to How Not To Fish — relaxed, real-world Scottish sea fishing from North Berwick, the Bass Rock, Craigleith and anywhere else I can cast a lure without making an arse of it.

I fish from both shore and inflatable boat (SIB), chasing pollock, mackerel, wrasse, cod and whatever else bites. Expect genuine sessions, lure tests, sabikis, metal jigs, soft plastics, and plenty of “that probably wasn’t the right way to do it” moments.

I’m not a professional angler — not even close — and we don’t take things too seriously here. It’s all about getting out, having a laugh, catching a few fish, and enjoying Scotland’s coastline.
