The Movie Codex
Deep-dive research on the films and television of the
1940s through the 1990s. Production histories, casting
decisions, on-set disasters, and how these shows actually
got made.
HOW WE RESEARCH
Every video starts as a sourced dossier before a line of
script is written. We work from production histories, cast
and crew interviews, contemporary trade reporting,
commentary tracks, and archival press. Claims we cannot
source do not make the script. Where accounts conflict, we
say so on screen instead of picking the better story.
WHO MAKES THIS
A team of six: one researcher and writer, three editors, a
designer, and a producer. Two to three videos a week, each
reviewed before publishing.
CORRECTIONS
Tell us in the comments if we get something wrong and we
will pin the correction. We would rather be right than
uncontested.
FOOTAGE
Short clips and stills are used for commentary, criticism,
and historical analysis. All rights remain with their owners.
