I am restoring a derelict Irish cottage to honour my promise to my Dad who passed in 2020.

Years ago, after my brother Colum was tragically blinded, Dad shifted all his energy to caring for him, putting our renovation plans on hold.

While my Da' was poorly with cancer, I promised him I would finish what he started.

Finding the cottage completely overgrown, and the land knee-deep in water, I knew I had a mammoth task ahead of me.

There were days I'd spend hours with a spade cutting ditches to shift that water.

I've slept in the car, I've washed in the sea and some days all I had to eat was straight from a can.
