Our Buddha Day / Hanamatsuri Service was held on April 13. As is the tradition, attendees pour sweet tea over a statue of the baby Buddha. In past years, our hanamido was a physical structure that was decorated with flowers. Our hanamido this year was created by Prudence and Cynthia using potted plants, creating a natural environment much like Lumbini Garden where the Buddha was born.

Each attendee received a lucky number and after the service, numbers were drawn and winners received a plant to take home.

After two weeks away, we'll be back at Windward Buddhist Temple with our Buddha Day (Hanamatsuri) Service on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Our resident minister, Rev. Sol Kalu, will be providing the Dharma Talk.

What were we up to the last couple of weeks? We had a very successful fundraiser at the Hongwanji Spring Bazaar at the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin in Honolulu on Sunday, March 30. And last Sunday, April 6th, WBT members attended the Hawaii Buddhist Council's Buddha Day Service at the Soto Mission of Hawaii.

Just a reminder! No Sunday Dharma Service at Windward Buddhist Temple on March 30 and April 6, 2025. Our next service (and YouTube upload) will be our Buddha Day Service (Hanamatsuri) on Sunday, April 13.

The sangha has been hard at work baking at the temple and will be at the annual Hongwanji Spring Bazaar and Rummage Sale at the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin (‪@HonpaHongwanjiHawaiiBetsuin‬) on Pali Highway. WBT will be there selling our Bon Dance favorites including takuan, bitter melon namasu, pickled onions, tsukemono, assorted manju, and more.

Every year, ministers and lay delegates from Honpa Hongwanji ‪@HonpaHongwanjiMissionofHawaii‬ temples from across the state of Hawaii converge in Honolulu at the Hawaii Betsuin for the Giseikai, or Legislative Assembly. This year's Giseikai is the 113th such meeting of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii.

This year, Windward Buddhist Temple had the honor of presenting during the afternoon session, sharing our story of rebranding from Kailua Hongwanji Mission to Windward Buddhist Temple and the success we've had in growing our sangha and membership.

We have an intergenerational activity after the first service of the month. After Sunday's Dharma Service on February 2, we celebrated the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Snake by making paper snakes.
