Self-care is one key to good health and wellness that comes in many shapes and sizes. Some practices aim to support body, mind, and spirit with a simple routine, while other practices involve more extensive learning. In this collection, Saybrook University faculty, students, and alumni serve as guides in various mind-body based experiences. Visitors to this site are invited to sample a variety of mind-body-spirit techniques and return regularly for additional self-care practices.

Event Description
This is a unique event, unlike any other. This guided storytelling of Black history will encompass authentic slave stories and recordings, singing and drumming, and poetry, providing powerful perspectives on what it means to have slave ancestry.
We yearn to heal our generational racial trauma and ongoing racial divisions. There can be no healing without understanding, and true understanding comes from experience. None of us can fully experience the life of another, but each of us has a powerful capacity for empathy that can be unlocked when we relax the body and mind and open the heart. Facts are not always agents of change, but stories can give powerful perspectives in nonjudgmental tones, allowing perspectives to shift.
These guided, meditative experiences will bring you through periods of African-American history. Live through the bondage of West Africans in the 1500s and beyond, the reliance on slave labor in the 1800s, survive the oppression of Jim Crow and Black Codes, enter the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, and take to the streets during a pandemic to fight for equality. The sessions will be both relaxing and emotionally evocative, allowing you to more deeply connect with Black histories.
