Here we see a late DAWO (Davisville RI to Worcester, M). DAWO usually comes through this area during the very early AM however occasionally when its counerpart WODA (the southbound run of this train) gets tied up between work and train traffic in Rhode Island. Therefore, the crew occasionally “runs out of time”.
That phrase has been used for years, and doesn’t look like it will be going anywhere. Train crews upon boarding and operating a train are given a set amount of hours they are allowed to work.
In this case with the P&W, when WODA runs out of time they have a different crew pick it back up the following morning. And thats what created this shot here.
Welp, it’s official. The Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern merger is happening, well sorta. The two companies have settled for a 85 billion dollar deal. STB still has to approve the merge however, and thats really the deciding factor. As of now, the two companies are still their own entities but give it time for the STB’s response and we will see what goes down.
While out for lunch I happened to bump into Readville, MA based local job L010. Today they had a Southern style of running things with the 6223 and 8854 duo.
I passed them in Framingham’s North yard, marking this crews half-way point if you will. The local job starts in CSX’s Readville yard during the mid-late AM throughout the week. They shuffle traffic for a few customers in the small area between there and Walpole, MA. L010 is the transfer job for all empties and loads going in and out of Readville and Walpole. They bring all the empties to Framingham, CSX’s Hub for all local traffic in Southeastern Mass. After dropping their empties, they don’t waste time and go straight to building a train for Walpole and Readville with loaded cars for their customers. Thats where I caught up with them today.
Here, the L010 leaves out of Framingham “North Yard” as seen in the first photo, and crosses the MBTA’s Framingham/Worcester Mainline onto the Framingham Secondary line that brings them to Walpole, and then Readville. I only managed to shoot them in Framingham as we lost them through the backwoods of Sherborn during our brief chase today.

Another bucket list place for me to visit, CSX Rice Yard in Waycross, GA.
I didn’t have much time to hang around but it was good to put the drone up. I missed the AC6000s because my drone could only go so far but it is what it is. A personal excuse to get myself back down here next summer lmao
