Hey Internet! The social world we live in and make for ourselves is complicated, immersive, and beautiful. I'm Peter Licari, a researcher of Political Science specializing in Political Behavior. I've decided to dedicate my life to researching the ins-and-outs of politics, psychology, sociology, philosophy, economics, and statistics. And, together, we're going to investigate it all!
Thank you for your support. And thanks for watching.

Hey all! A couple of updates.
First off, I'm not dead! Probably not too surprising since this post popped into your feed but, ya know, you got to celebrate your wins.
I felt that I should update y'all really quick about the channel: I'm planning on recording and releasing videos again starting in May. I'm going to start with one per month for now and will try to get to biweekly by December. I'll be pausing the Patreon until July so that I can be at that pace for a couple of months (although I'll still be mentioning the Patreon in the videos that I release between now and then since my hope is that the videos are more evergreen). There are a couple of ideas that I've promised to make (namely: state's rights and the Myanmar coup) that I still have every intent to get to but that I'm letting simmer while I get more research done. I'm also going to be experimenting with using the shorts to do more of the contextualizing political news--because the new happens so quickly--while saving the longer videos for more evergreen content.
I also want to thank you all for still being here. I was hoping that my feelings of fatigue and burnout would magically evaporate after graduate school; I had no idea how tired I truly was. After some rest and adjustment to my new life outside of academia, I'm raring and eager to continue to explore our incredible social world. <3

Hey all! Remember when I said I'd update you when/if my research on foxnews.com made it through peer review? Well.....

Hey all! There's going to be a new video out in the next few days about Mail-In/Absentee voting but, before then: Exciting news! I'll be defending my dissertation, looking at how video games can increase civic attitudes and increase political participation, on October 9th!!!
Technically, all of my institution's defenses are open to the public and, since this is taking place online, I was wondering if there'd be any interest in me doing a special "Peter becomes a Dr (but not that kind of Dr)" livestream?

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask you a serious question about the office hours segments (the parts where I read over and answer a few comments from the last video). Looking over the analytics, it looks like most of you guys duck out of the video once that part starts. No judgement! But it's making me think about what I should do with it and I'd love your input. <3

Hey everyone! It seems like I only make community posts to dispense bad news. I promise, next time will be like a picture of my dog or something. This time, though, also bad. Video's postponed until next week. I was in New York working in the archives of the Strong Museum of Play for my dissertation all last week and didn't get home until 3:00 Monday. Then I had meetings, an NSF grant to finish, dissertation writing, responsibilities with the job that pays my bills (btw, I noticed a couple new Patreon supporters!!. Seriously, thank you so much! You're helping me buy groceries, you don't even know), AND I did some DIYing to change the set for the videos. In hindsight, it might have been hubris to think that I could've done all that and still keep on schedule. Video'll be out Wednesday--and I think I'm going to try and work it so that becomes the normal release day again.
Thanks for all your support. Y'all have my undying love and appreciation.

Hey all! So it finally happened. And if you're wondering what "it" is, it's the death* of the behemoth laptop I've been using to make videos for the past few years. Even after lugging this thing with me to Chicago to make sure my conference didn't interfere with getting a video out, it decided to crap out on me. Long and the short of it is, no videos this week due to technical difficulties. And since we're probably going to get a full report in the next couple/few weeks, I'm putting the Mueller video on hold. I will have a new video out next Friday (a collab I'm really excited about, actually). Until then, I love you all and appreciate your patience <3
*The thing is still "running" but I'm being generous with the term.

Hey everyone! There unfortunately won't be a video this week as the Wife and I came down with a pretty serious "ick" that's kept us out of commission for a couple days. Since the shutdown doesn't seem like it's going to stop anytime soon, we'll plan on addressing what if it NEVER ended in next week's video after I'm feeling well enough that my voice doesn't sound like shifting gravel.
Stay healthy out there!
