Windy City Elevators

Welcome to Windy City Elevators! This is the channel where I make elevator videos, mainly around the city of Chicago. Sometimes, I make videos of trains, flights, and other cool stuff as well.

Please feel free to watch my videos and leave any comments containing more details of the elevators (fixtures, chimes, etc.), corrections, or your viewpoints in my videos since I may not be familiar with all the elevator specs. Any inappropriate/offensive comments or comments that display a private location's name/address will be removed. This channel is PG rated, meaning that using foul language is allowed, as long as it's kept to a minimum.

Windy City Elevators

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re enjoying a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

I’m inching closer to resuming uploads, as I’ve recently started doing real work at my new job. Some of you may be wondering, “Why did it take so long?” Well, that’s because I had to go through a lot of training and spend time getting familiar with the many resources needed for the role. Once I’m fully settled in and confident handling my work, I’ll start figuring out how to get videos up again.

As I’ve mentioned before, there’s quite a backlog of videos waiting to be posted—including some from recent meetups. There may be a few changes in how I edit these going forward. I’ll also put out some polls to see what kind of content you’d like to see and maybe ask a few other fun questions.

Lastly, I want to give a huge thanks and shoutout to ‪@bostonelevatorsaviation‬ —not just for coming out to Chicago to meet up, but also for successfully fixing my laptop, appreciate your help! Turns out the battery was the main issue causing it to crash and preventing things from working as they should.

With that said, I’m looking forward to getting back to uploading and chatting with you all very soon.

Best,
WCE

I’m a little late on this since I’m posting this just past midnight but yep, another day I turn one year older but still in a young fashion. Thank you all for the support once again and I’ll definitely look forward to start posting content as soon as I get settled in with my new job and so far, it’s progressing very smoothly.

Hi everyone,

I know it’s been a while since I’ve uploaded regular content, but I’m excited to announce that after a challenging six months of career uncertainty, the light at the end of the tunnel is finally shining through! I’ve landed a new job that starts in just a few days. The company I’ll be working for has been around for a long time and operates in a completely different industry (NOT consulting, like my previous job). It offers a much more stable work environment and plenty of opportunities for growth. For privacy reasons, I won’t be disclosing any details about where I’ll be working, which company I’ll be with, or what position I’ll hold.

Don’t worry—I’m not quitting YouTube! I’ve got a ton of content in my backlog. In fact, I recently took a trip along the East Coast, and let me tell you, it was an unforgettable experience. I filmed a lot, and one of those videos is going to be like nothing you’ve seen before.

That said, once my new job starts, I’ll need a little time to adjust to this new chapter in my career and lifestyle. Once everything is settled, I’ll dive into editing the backlog and put together a posting schedule (likely by day of the week or something similar).

I’m also planning to switch to new movie editing software since the ones I’ve been using have been a bit tedious and challenging in some areas. I might even tweak my intro and outro slightly. If you have any suggestions for editing software that can be used on either an iPhone or Windows PC, and is more feature-rich than iMovie or Windows Photos Movie Editor, feel free to drop them in the comments below!

Thanks so much for your continued support, and stay tuned for more updates.

Best,
WCE

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful summer. I know it's been an awfully long time since I've posted anything on to my channel lately and I want to share with you guys an update to what's been happening with my job since my last post.

So to reiterate, the full-time job I had (hint hint) was at a consulting company that specializes in technology. Back then when it started about more than 15 years ago, it was an awesome company to work for, as the people there are very welcoming and friendly and I loved the culture in the workplace and the fun events that the company used to have, up until a few years ago from now where it was bought out by some bigger company that's based overseas. When I started this job in summer of 2022, a few years after it was bought out, it still felt like a great company to work for and so it seemed like I found my happy place. That is, at least until April of 2023, when the parent company decided to split into two different names and my company ended up merging in with the new name.

Since then, things started deteriorating when the company started cutting down on their budget. Some of them include reducing the office space and laying off a bunch of employees, including the entire recruiting department. As for me, I was still in a pretty good spot with some of the projects I worked on up until a few weeks ago when I ended up getting removed from the project due to unforeseen circumstances. I was literally hoping for something better to happen, but sadly, it did not. Right before this post was made, in an unsurprising twist of fate, I ended up getting the boot. So as of right now, uploads will still be paused except for some occasional regular uploads and shorts until I can better myself and land a new job that can allow me to take a step further into my career, and this can take a while.

As always, thank you for your continued support and don't worry, there are lots of videos in the backlog and once everything gets settled, I will then start uploading again.

Best,
WCE

How's it going everyone,

Yes, I am still here and as a matter of fact, if you haven't known already, I recently traveled to Boston for a short weekend getaway and managed to bump into Nick (‪@bostonelevatorsaviation‬) to not only explore downtown Boston but to also film quite a handful of good elevators around downtown Boston. Be sure to check out his awesome content and subscribe to his channel!

Now for some major reasons as to why you haven't seen my uploads in a very very long time:

First, my computer's SSD has unfortunately failed, meaning that every time when I start it up, it ends up crashing every minute or two, thereby making it unusable. So as of now, I'm working on figuring out if I can either fix my computer or find another computer that I can use to edit my videos.

Second, my office job has gone downhill for the past few months ever since our entire recruiting team was laid off and other things due to budget issues, which to me is a sign of the economy is still not doing so well. Even though I wasn't affected, I still need to shift my focus on maintaining my job, at least for the next month or so.

Lastly, yet another life-changing event is in play for my family. Long story short, I will soon become an uncle to my family. Although you may know this transition is rather long, I do want to make sure that the delivery process goes well as planned and that the newborn can adjust to their new world.

Hopefully once all of this is settled, I will start to post more content, including the ones from Las Vegas, Austin, Boston, and many more to come. For now, I do have all of the Florida content uploaded a while back but didn't have the time to schedule them yet and so I will try to get those up whenever I possibly can.

Other than that, please enjoy your thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season!

Best,

Good morning to all,

I have some very exciting news to share with you guys. Firstly, I’d like to apologize for the lack of content within the past month, as things were pretty rough at my office job, but recently, things have turned around eventually in a positive direction and so hopefully within the next week or so, I’ll be returning to my regular upload schedule.

Second, as you all know, I work for Walmart. That is, up until two weeks after this post was made, as I have just filed in my two week notice to my manager there following recent experiences there along with what I was told from my ex-coworkers about their experiences there as well, in which they only lasted for a few months. Even ‪@DieselDucy‬ mentioned on one of his recent live streams that long ago when he used to work for Walmart, he used to be an assistant manager but later got demoted due to his disability (aka got discriminated). Also, it’s conflict of interest since I’m also working for one of its competitors (Target). So yeah, I’d say Walmart is a good place for starters in retail, but not a good fit for your long-term career.

Lastly, after almost 7 years in the making, I am very excited to announce that the St Regis Hotel in Chicago has finally opened its doors to the public! You will see a detailed post on my Instagram page (@windycityelevators) along with a video tour of this brand new property very soon!

As always, thank you for the continued support and I look forward to start uploading again! :)

Adding to my previous post, I do want to share an exciting news of the St Regis Hotel in Chicago that progressed quite decently within the past few months. Just yesterday, the construction fence was removed and according to the Marriott website, the hotel is projected to open to the public in May of 2023 and it’s currently accepting reservations for late June 2023 and beyond

Hello everyone,

The past few weeks have been very troublesome for me, which is why I haven’t been posting any contents lately aside from shorts. The main reason is what has been happening at work (no, not my side job in retail but more for my office job that’s full-time). To give you a quick information about what I do full-time, I work for a technology consulting firm. Long story short, earlier this month, I got laid off of a team I was on for almost 6 months working on a project for one of my company’s top clients (not because of me or anything but more of my team as a whole that wasn’t doing too well). In other words, I still have my office job but with no real work to do. As of then, my manager has been trying his very best to put me on a team that will hopefully allow me to expand my career and so far, it hasn’t been working out.

With the huge amount of job cuts that have been happening in the tech industry within the past few months, I greatly fear that I may be on the chopping block at some point if things don’t turn around soon enough, even though as far as I’m concerned, my company did not cut any jobs.

Thank you all for the continued support as always and I will not hesitate to keep you guys informed once I get settled into a better position at work, as I really want to get the contents from Austin, TX and Southwest Florida up for you guys as soon as possible. :)

Windy City Elevators

Hello to all,

Uploads will resume, starting this week! Here's what the schedule will look like, moving forward:

For the next few weeks, there will be a retake of all of the elevators at Aon Center and this time, those takes will be silent followed by the last few videos from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Afterwards, I will switch gears and upload three videos per week, which will consist of a new video from Austin, TX on Mondays, Illinois (Chicago, IL and the suburbs) on Wednesdays, and Southwest Florida (Naples, Marco Island, and Bonita Springs).

And don't forget that I will still upload short videos at random times and it may not always be an elevator video :).

Thanks, as always, for the support!

Best,
- WCE

P.S. I now work for Target part-time! I still have my full-time office job though!
