Sky is exiting its television news joint venture with the United Arab Emirates, Sky News Arabia, following criticism of its coverage of the war in Sudan, including allegations of genocide denial.
Sky News Arabia will retain its name for now, as Sky UK had previously agreed to a multi-year brand licensing deal with it.
Sky and its partner IMI — the investment vehicle controlled by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al‑Nahyan, vice-president of the UAE and owner of Manchester City — have announced a new commercial arrangement under which the UK broadcaster will relinquish all strategic and operational control of the 24-hour Arabic-language news and current affairs channel.
In November, Sudan’s government banned Sky News Arabia from operating in the country after the channel dispatched a crew to El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, to produce a report claiming that the security and humanitarian situation had stabilised.
The withdrawal from news operations in the Middle East follows a similar move by Sky in Australia.

Israeli military vehicles entered Taybeh on Friday morning and ordered organisers preparing for the annual Catholic celebration honouring the Virgin Mary to stop their activities and leave the area, according to the US-based NGO Vulnerable People Project (VPP).
Palestinian Christian advocates have increasingly argued that Israeli occupation policies, settlement expansion, and insecurity in communities such as Taybeh are driving Christians from their historic homeland.
"The Christian community of Taybeh has endured escalating pressure for months, and today's events demonstrate how fragile religious freedom has become in the very land where Christianity was born," Jason Jones, founder and president of the Vulnerable People Project, said in a statement.

US President Donald Trump said: "I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back,” in a post on Truth Social.
"Likewise, through highly placed representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop."
According to Lebanon's health ministry, more than 3,400 people have been killed and over 10,000 wounded in Israeli attacks since 2 March.

Hamid Tawbe has been missing under the ruins of his home in the town of Burj Qalaway since last week, following intense Israeli bombardment despite a "ceasefire".
His family has appealed to the Lebanese army and the international community to intervene after losing contact with him at around 10am on Thursday following a wave of Israeli air strikes.
Relatives say search and rescue teams have been unable to reach the site because the Mechanism, the US-led committee responsible for monitoring the cessation of hostilities agreement between Lebanon and Israel, has yet to grant the necessary clearance.

More than thirty years ago, I was imprisoned in Iran for eight years and tortured just for taking to the streets to demand freedom, writes Nasrin Parvaz.
When I first arrived in the UK, my mind was still trapped in prison. I saw the faces of friends who had been executed. I heard the firing squad and the sounds of my fellow prisoners being tortured.
I was lucky. I escaped. I had the chance to heal and start again. But my heart aches for the women and men still enduring the same torture I suffered.
As the US-Israel war on Iran is used by the Islamic Republic to intensify repression, we must keep up global pressure.

They both say they were banned because of their vocal criticism of Israel.
The UK Home Office said in a statement that travel authorisation for "these individuals" had been cancelled as "their presence in the UK may not be conducive to the public good". They did not mention Israel.
Ugyur, a US citizen and co-founder of YouTube news and commentary channel The Young Turks, said in a post on X: “The British government is saying they’re banning me because I am ‘a serious risk to the public order’ due to my criticism of Israel."
Piker, Ugyur's nephew with a huge following on Twitch, said: “It’s a sad state of affairs where obviously the interests of Israel take highest priority."

Ex-Syrian general Khaled al-Halabi and ex-senior Syrian police officer Musab Abu Rukbah have gone on trial in Vienna, accused of torturing opponents of the fallen Assad regime.
They're accused of ordering or failing to oppose the "mistreatment of members of a protest movement" on numerous occasions.
The defendants, a former brigadier general in the Syrian intelligence services and a former head of the investigations office of the local criminal police, are said to have committed the crimes in Raqa between April 2011 and March 2013.
Several similar cases relating to crimes committed during the Syrian civil war have been tried in other countries, including Germany, France and Sweden.
