demonstration was held in Ramallah, West Bank, on 3 August to mark the "Day of Solidarity with the People of Gaza and Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli Jails".

Participants carried photos of detained Palestinian prisoners, as well as those who died in Israeli jails, urging the international community to take stronger action over the treatment of Palestinian prisoners by Israeli prison authorities.

Since the Gaza war broke out in October 2023, Israel has detained tens of thousands of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. Around 9,400, including 1,900 children, remain imprisoned.

Professor David Miller, professor of political sociology, was dismissed by the University of Bristol in October 2021, after a disciplinary hearing found he “did not meet the standards of behaviour” expected of university staff through comments made in February that year.

Miller launched employment tribunal proceedings claiming unfair dismissal, breach of contract and discrimination or victimisation on grounds of religion or belief.

Bristol University lost the appeal on Tuesday 4 Aug, and the employment tribunal’s finding is that it discriminated against him based on his anti-Zionist beliefs, after he was laid off over comments criticising Israel.

For the families of those killed in the Beirut port explosion, every anniversary since 2020 has been marked by the same ritual of gathering in the streets to demand accountability while watching the investigation stall under the weight of political interference, legal obstruction and institutional paralysis.

This year, however, the sixth anniversary of the blast was different, with renewed optimism as Lebanon's political leadership has publicly backed the next phase of the judicial process.

For the month of July alone, Israeli forces arrested 630 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem – bringing the total number of arrests since October 2023 to over 25,000.

Meanwhile the number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails has surpassed 9,400 — all enduring escalating torture, starvation, and medical neglect.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Society stated on Tuesday that the arrests targeted various segments of Palestinian society, including children and previously-released political prisoners.

The society noted that the arrest campaigns were accompanied by "escalating violations," including field interrogations, violent night-time home raids, systematic destruction of property, assaults on detainees and their families—involving beatings, threats, and humiliation—the holding of family members as hostages, the theft of money and personal belongings, and the carrying out of summary executions.

Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz has walked back on an announcement made on live television calling for the dismissal of the military’s West Bank chief, Avi Bluth, over the Major General’s order to renew a restraint order against a settler who allegedly sexually abused a Palestinian.

Katz appeared on the right-wing Channel 14 news on Sunday night, denouncing Bluth for his push to seek a renewal of an administrative restraining order against Tal Yinon Dardik, who is accused of participating in a brutal settler attack on Khirbet Humsa in March.

The US Pentagon has signed a $3 billion deal with Lockheed Martin to accelerate production of Patriot and THAAD interceptor missile components, as conflicts in Iran and Ukraine continue to strain US stockpiles. A separate contract worth up to $58.6 billion covers the production of Patriot interceptor missiles.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies recently estimated that the US military holds fewer than 1,000 Patriot interceptors and 250 THAAD interceptors, two key air defence systems that have seen heavy use across the Middle East.
