What do you guys think about Paramount Skydance trying to make a hostile takeover of Warner Bros? I personally think it’s a bad idea. I think Netflix would be a better buyer. Paramount Skydance already has way too many companies under its belt. A WB buyout would take us closer to a monopolization of the media industry in the US. Not to mention that the founder of Paramount Skydance is the son of Larry Ellison… It’s not just fears of a monopoly for me, it’s also the fear of a free press, since this buyout would put some news outlets in jeopardy. Because the Ellison family is close to a certain politician whose name I won’t mention here, I fear that news outlets will skew politically to one side. Should one company own all this IP? Not in my opinion.

Which is better? Personally I think Digital Cinema is trash. You can get better image quality on a 4k TV or even a smartphone with an OLED screen. I think either film distributors and theatre chains need to step up when it comes to quality. They should Install better projectors and sound systems, and modernize theatres. They need to improve room acoustics and sound isolation as well. That’s when THX should come back into play, with stricter standards. I’ve been in cinemas built to THX standards in the early 2000’s and I still hear the adjacent auditorium. If the theatre industry wants to survive, they need to make an experience worth it to have people pick going to the movies rather than watching a movie at home. I also think that film projection needs to make a comeback for that reason. Watching a digital presentation is essentially like watching a big TV. Film projection is different and has a completely different personality, and much higher resolution than its digital counterparts. People want to justify paying upwards of $12 to see a movie, film would make it worth it. It would create a unique experience you can’t get at home. Ticket prices might go up because of the extra cost of running film, but I think it would be worth it. Maybe even market it as a premium format. Comment what you think below. Hey everyone!
The holidays are now in full swing! How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Mine was nice, spent time with loved ones and saw Wicked: For Good in IMAX any my local Century Theatre (Cinemark). I forgot how great the IMAX sound system was! The back surrounds are HUMUNGOUS! Unpopular opinion, but the 1:90:1 IMAX screen is the best way to experience the IMAX Laser system. I’ve seen movies on a 1:43:1 screen with Laser and it ends up looking washed out you can see ALL of the pixels as well. I think it’s time IMAX comes up with a better system for those screens.
