Just finished editing a little film of my good friend Mr Gary Williamson making oak-shafted arrows for his Joe Gibbs 93lb @ 30” maple and glass laminate flatbow. Video out Friday.
Hi guys and gals. Sorry I've not uploaded a video for a few weeks. Been on a little adventure and the next video will be a personal one - telling the story of how a dog's medallion took me all the way to India. More bow making soon!
Finally got the pole lathe set up in the woods. Sorry for delay in posting video @mickgrewcock. Coming soon. Here’s a glimpse of my first effort turning a Medieval style archery arrow blunt
The very beginnings of a Medieval style spring pole lathe, an ancient type of wood-turning lathe. These parts are the pine lathe bed fitted with beech poppets and wedge. I hope to be able to re-create the manufacture of wooden archery blunts, walnut sized blunt arrow heads once used for practise at the butts and illustrated in the 14th Century illuminated manuscript the Luttrell Psalter.

More work on the pole lathe. Now loosely doweled ready for disassembly and then re-assembly in the woods. But will it work?
