I’m Nick and I record videos of Ki Ho`alu (Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar), “How to play” tutorials, local and traditional Hawaiian music, and any kine otha stuff.
I’ve always loved Hawaiian and local music when growing up, but never knew how to play any instruments. One day, I realized that just singing along and listening to albums wasn’t enough for me.. I had to learn to play it myself! In the Summer of 2018, I was taught Slack Key Guitar... and the rest is history!! I still have a lot to learn, but this channel is like a record of my progress.
Hawaiian songs often remind us of places that are disappearing or no longer exist, and tell stories from long ago. Some of my inspirations are Hui Ohana, The Sunday Manoa, The Makaha Sons of Niihau, and the Gabby Band. I also follow the works of Slack Key Guitar Legends like Ledward Kaapana, Gabby Pahinui, Peter Moon, Leonard Kwan, Raymond Kane, Sonny Chillingworth and many others.
