Florian Gadsby is a ceramicist working with stoneware and porcelain in North London — here you'll find videos that show process, how pottery is thrown and finished and finally glazed and kiln fired. The videos here show the processes behind his work, such as the throwing and trimming of tableware and more sculptural pieces.
For more regular posts, including daily photographs and videos, make sure to follow over on my Instagram: (www.instagram.com/floriangadsby).
I restock my online shop around 3/4 times a year, with about 300-400 pieces a time, if you'd like to receive a newsletter about when these go live you can sign up to my newsletter on my website, (www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter).
I also leave the shop page online, even though it appears as sold out, it usually sells out in a few minutes time, just to give you an idea of what's available and the price range, (www.floriangadsby.com/shop).
If there's anything else you'd like to know, please do get in touch!

Good afternoon everyone!
Just a short message to say that I'm taking the weekend off video making—this past week has been manic in terms of wrapping all the pots up from my previous restock, which, if you managed to get something in, THANK YOU! Equally, I always feel like I need to say that your interest in my work, whether you actually purchase a pot or not, is also really gratefully received. Comments, likes, subscriptions and video views, it all goes into helping keep the studio operational and the bills paid and that's a rather miraculous thing.
So, a little video holiday this weekend, there'll be some shorter format content going out on Instagram as usual, including a video that shows an absolutely incredible tenmoku/bronze encrusted vase, so if you haven't followed along over there you can find my account here, (although who am I kidding, I reckon most of you follow there too):

Hey folks!
Just a QUICK reminder for later today, at 7:00 pm GMT, (23 November), my online shop will be restocked with some 317 pots:
www.floriangadsby.com/shop
(Come time you won't need a password, it'll be accessible as per usual).
This winter’s drop will be shipping to: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and the USA.
For those of you ordering from the USA, do bear in mind that you’ll be responsible for taxes and tariffs, UPS will be in contact with you about these.
My restocks can be somewhat manic affairs and I apologise for that. When the shop goes live there’s normally around 25,000 people on the website, of course not everyone is aiming to purchase pots, but I imagine with every lot there could be 20-50 people attempting to buy it, thus the website has to make a decision on who to choose, so to some degree it is fastest fingers first. Items in your basket aren’t saved for you specifically, as if they were people could add a majority of the store to their cart, essentially preventing it from working for anybody else. The best way to think about the shop is that it’s a sort of lottery, with so many people vying for the same pots, inevitably they’re dished out to quite a random, wipe spread of people. The system also incentives purchasing 1-2 pieces, gather than some folk obtaining 10-15 pieces, this ultimately means more of you get something.
I understand it’s frustrating and creates a rushed shopping experience but with the following I have it isn’t something I’ll be able to easily fix unless I scale the business up considerably by purchasing larger kilns, hiring staff and finding a larger premises. For some people that might sound like an exciting prospect but I think most of you want pots that are actually made by my hands and not somebody else’s. This might happen someday with apprentices but I never want what I do to feel more corporate.
Thank you for sticking around for more than a decade at this point. That’s a terrifyingly long time to be posting daily, sharing photographs and videos of my practice, I’m a very lucky potter to have you all onboard.
All the best,
Flo x

Dear YouTube friends,
There’s about 8 hours to go until my next pottery-lottery restock, (17 August, 7:00 pm BST). I’m not the biggest fan of that term, but in my mind it at least gets the point across that obtaining something isn’t necessarily a certainty, although this time around, with the extremely sad exclusion of the United States and European Union members, I can foresee the experience being a lot less hectic.
www.floriangadsby.com/shop
The shop itself won’t require a password when it goes live—it’ll be accessible as per usual. You can find a temporary page on my website that contains a preview and price list:
www.floriangadsby.com/pricelistpreview
I’ve been writing about my reasons of excluding these destinations exhaustively in my recent Instagram stories and posts, but essentially it’s down to tariffs and the current limbo period we’re in as couriers here haven’t updated their websites to allow us to prepay tariffs yet and for the EU, (minus Switzerland and Norway), it’s due to GPSR and all the red-tape that’s come with it, which I’m yet to tackle. That’s it all in short at least.
With that said, I will be shipping to: UK, Australia, Canada, Norway, Switzerland, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea and lots of destinations in the Middle East.
As always, my advice to purchase something is to move quickly, save card details in your browser if it’ll allow you and don’t worry about checking out multiple times. I reimburse the extra shipping costs and box everything up together.
After this restock, I’m going to get my GPSR compliance sorted for the EU, and hopefully in a few months’ time tariffs, taxes, and the couriers and their systems will have settled and become usable again for shipping to the USA. I remember feeling so downtrodden after Brexit, as really, the world can only become a better place through compassion and unity between countries. Yet, these waves of division are becoming more regular and I just hope it doesn’t last forever. I’ve always felt so connected with the world at large due to having a global audience and I’m so grateful for every last one of you that’s decided to follow along.
Thanks for shopping, and I’ll see the rest of you in my winter restock in November.
All my best,
Flo x

Good afternoon potters!
I know I don't post all that regularly here, but my next YouTube video, (to be uploaded 22nd June, 4:00 pm BST), will be a Q&A, thus, if there's any burning questions you've always wanted to ask, you can either leave them as a comment below, or submit them via my Instagram story that has just gone live!
I can't wait to see what you've all got to ask and thanks as always for taking your time to watch, comment and like my videos, it really means so much.
This wicked photograph was taken by Felix Russell-Saw, I can't recommend his work enough: www.instagram.com/felixrussellsaw
Thanks!

Just a short message to let you all know that I'll be updating my online shop on my website tomorrow at 7:00 pm GMT, (24 November). There'll be some 350 pieces available in total, including the stepped mugs in this photograph.
It'll be accessible via this link: www.floriangadsby.com/shop and it won't require a password come the time, you'll be able to enter the page like normal.
I'm also going to be sending out a newsletter tonight that contains a preview and price list, you can sign up to that here: www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter
That's all for now, it can be a bit of a rush, the pots tend to sellout within 5-6 minutes, so if you would really like something it helps to be on time, save your payment details in your browser if you can, and don't try and add too much to your basket. It's a pottery-lottery really, that's the best way of looking at it as there tends to be approximately 15,000/20,000 people on the shop the moment it goes live.
Thanks so much for all your support this past year, all the likes, comments and views on my videos mean an awful lot.

Friends, potters!
I know I don't post here all that often, but I thought that it would only be fair to let you all know about the competition I'm currently running on Instagram in collaboration with my favourite light company, skinflint. In it, you'll have the chance to win the pictured bowl, together with an £1000 voucher to spend at skinflint.
Sadly, entry is via Instagram only, (the conditions being that the winner will be selected from the comments on the post found through the link below, you must follow both mine and skinflint's Instagrams and tag a friend or two, or three, each tag counts as an entry).
Here's the link: www.instagram.com/p/C-LDN4FtiBD
The winner will be chosen at random at the beginning of next month.
Good luck!

Happy Sunday friends!
I recently appeared on the We Are Makers podcast, to chat with Jack and Kate about craft, my upcoming book and all manner of other topics. It's a long one! But if you'd like to find out more about my approach to pottery and my history, then I really recommend listening!

If you'd like to see my workshop and myself creating through a different pair of eyes, I highly recommend watching Ceramic Review's latest 'Masterclass'. It was an absolute honour to be asked to participate in this series, I've been subscribed to this magazine since I was a teenager first learning how to make pots so being involved in this manner sort of feels like coming full circle.
It was a pleasure to sit down and throw, trim and chat to Layton and I really hope you enjoy the film too!
You can find the article itself, and lots more here too: www.ceramicreview.com/

I’ve written my first book! ‘By My Hands: A Potter’s Apprenticeship’ will be released on September 7, 2023 and is published by Particular Books, part of Penguin Random House. This is the ‘secret project’ I’ve been working on this past year, writing tales on paper, as well as throwing and firing clay. It isn’t a how-to book, rather it tells my personal story of learning the potter’s craft, describing the pots that shaped me and the apprenticeships where I honed new skills.
I’ll gradually be releasing more information as the time of publication approaches, but you can pre-order ‘By My Hands’ right now, below and stay tuned for more exciting pre-order news and competitions over the coming months.
I can’t wait to share the book with all of you!
