Why do disasters happen?

Disasters aren't simply the result of hazards. Earthquakes, floods, wildfires, heatwaves and storms become disasters through the vulnerabilities, decisions and systems that shape their impacts.

Through video essays, shorts and eventually documentaries, Catastrophe explores the vulnerabilities people don't talk about, the decisions that shape disaster impacts, and how communities recover, all to help us understand disasters differently.

My name is Brady, and I'm a disaster researcher. I explore how disasters unfold.

That means looking beyond the event itself: how climate change is altering hazards, how human decisions create and deepen vulnerability, and how disasters can be shaped by exploitation, inequality, power and mismanagement.
