Ioana Ilie

Born in 1988 in Sibiu, Romania, Ioana Ilie is mostly known for the art of classical improvisation which has become a prerequisite in her concerts, allowing her to perform throughout Europe, the United States, and Japan. She started playing the piano at 3 and won her first competition at the age of 6. The "Constantin Silvestri" Scholarship granted her the privilege of studying in England between 2005-6 and in 2014 she was awarded a three-year scholarship by the Young Musicians Programme of the Notenstein-La Roche Bank. A tireless composer, she finds a lot of inspiration in nature, history and literature: Her latest album, "Zodion" features her piano compositions on the 12 zodiac signs. Ioana taught improvisation at the Music Academy Trossingen, Germany from 2011 to 2015, and from February 2015 on she teaches piano at the Music Academy, Basel.
