As a retired locksmith, the following are my personal opinions on security products:
Schlage, Kwikset, Sargent, and Yale locks should all be used on your own entrance doors. It will make lishi lock picking professionals and criminals have a much harder time lock picking any of these locks. The best way I know of to stop brute force entry is by using a good surveillance camera system. A good Kwikset electronic deadbolt lock or Medeco deadbolt lock will secure your home fast.

THE "FOREVER" DIAMOND UPGRADE FOR THE P2S đ
Ultimate 3D Printer Upgrade for Locksmiths
Complete Installation Guide for the Forever amzn.to/4sbMxWS
When you are printing professional locksmithing tools and jigs, precision is everything. Standard brass and even hardened steel tips can wear out faster than you think, especially when you are using the tough, glass-filled or carbon-fiber filaments needed for high-strength parts like SFIC pinning blocks. We are helping out Bob from Locksmith Tips today with a major upgrade that solves this problem forever.
The Bambu Lab Tungsten Carbide Nozzle (FAH040) is the "one-tip" solution. With a hardness rating of HRA 90, it is nearly indestructible and will maintain its 0.4mm diameter through thousands of hours of printing. This means your parts will fit perfectly every single time without the nozzle hole widening and ruining your tolerances.
Installation Steps
1 Power off the machine and allow the hotend to cool completely to room temperature.
2 Remove the magnetic front housing of the toolhead to access the assembly.
3 Disconnect the two wire connectors for the heater and thermistor from the board.
4 Release the locking latch on the side of the hotend assembly.
5 Slide the old unit out and slide the new Tungsten Carbide FAH040 unit in.
6 Secure the locking latch to hold the assembly in place.
7 Plug the wire connectors back into their ports.
8 Reinstall the magnetic cover.
9 Power on the printer and go to the maintenance settings.
10 Set the nozzle type to Hardened Steel to ensure the machine optimizes heat for the carbide material.
Here is a video showing a complete fix and step-by-step walkthrough of the swap:

upgrade here:

dig deeper
The reason this upgrade is a game-changer for our community is the material science. Tungsten Carbide is 50% tougher than standard hardened steel. While steel is good, it can still be microscopically "sanded" down by abrasive plastics over time. For locksmiths, even a tiny change in nozzle diameter can mean the difference between a lock plug that fits and one thatâs stuck. Investing in a carbide tip ensures your 3D-printed tools remain as accurate as the day you first calibrated your machine.

ITL 9700A Titan Key Solution
Description
The ITL 9700A is a work of art, but cutting the Titan (KW10) series requires a very specific setup. As shown in the high-resolution diagram, the Titan blank features an elongated top shoulder. Because of this unique geometry, a standard V-cutter will physically strike the shoulder before it reaches the required 0.097" first-cut position.
To solve this, you must use the BX-TITAN Offset Cutter (ITL# 250) along with the A1 insert. The cutter features a 0° flat face on the right side (shoulder side) and a single-angle cutting face on the left (tip side). This provides the necessary clearance to reach that first cut without gouging the brass, while the A1 insert ensures the blank is seated perfectly.
IMPORTANT ITL TECH UPDATE
I must jump in here. This is Mike Walker with door and lock tips. Please be advised that ITL has little to no technical support or support in general for their machines. I am providing these videos because the manufacturerâs documentation is often incomplete, and their direct support has even provided incorrect technical specifications that could damage your machine. Since the internal logic is the same across most of their models, the facts I share here are vital for anyone operating an ITL. My goal is to ensure you have the real-world facts you need to succeed in the field.
Dig deeper: The ITL Code Book on Page 37 explicitly lists the KWIKSET/03 TITAN (ITL# 250) as "Needs offset cutter" and specifies the use of the A1 insert. This isn't just a suggestion; itâs a requirement for precision accuracy on this machine.

Don't Forget the Roof: Your First Line of Defense
Iâve seen it firsthand in the hospital systemsâcriminals don't always use the front door. When I worked with the AdventHealth system, the very first thing we did was secure every roof access point.
People think a high roof is safe, but all a bad guy needs is a ladder and an unlocked hatch to get full run of your facility. In many new buildings, these are completely overlooked. I always keyed our Yale LFIC (Large Format Interchangeable Core) systems so the roof used the same high-security key as the rest of the facility. If your roof isn't locked, your building isn't secure.
Itâs a simple fix that prevents a total compromise. Don't let your "walk-in" security start at the roofline!

đĽđ¨ NO MORE NOISE: THE LOCKSMITH'S ULTIMATE BENCH UPGRADE! đ¨đĽ
Description
Listen up, everyone. We all know the struggle of finding the right setup for the workbench. I have a small chair that fits perfectly behind my bench for shooting videos, but letâs be honestâit was junk. It lacked the proper support I needed for long sessions, and every time I moved, the seat made so much noise it would ruin a good take.
I have officially integrated a professional tool into my workflow that solved both problems: the ProtoArc Extra Large Seat Cushion.
The company sent me two of these for free, and I have put them to work. One is on my studio stool and the other is in my locksmith truck. I love them! This gets the high-five Locksmith Tip of the Day wonderfulness. This isn't about some miracle cure; itâs about having the right support so I can sit for hours and focus on the work. Best of all? It has eliminated all that annoying seat noise when Iâm filming or working at the bench.
This is a precision-engineered piece of gear. It features a five-section design for proper support, and the memory foam is top-notch. Whether Iâm doing high-detail repair work at the bench or I'm out on a long service call, I'm finally comfortable. If you want to upgrade your workspace and kill the noise in your chair, this is the way to do it.

Locksmith Tip: Gear Maintenance
One of the best features of this ProtoArc SC Butterfly Ergonomic Seat Cushion is the pilling-resistant cotton cover. After a week of dusty service calls or working with graphite and brass shavings at the bench, you just unzip it and toss it in the wash. The charcoal-infused memory foam also helps keep it from holding onto any odors from the truck or the shop. It stays as clean as the day I got it!

TOP SECRET PRICING FROM DOOR AND LOCK TIPS
When it comes to high-end glass storefronts, security often takes a backseat to aestheticsâuntil now. Standard roller latches have a notorious "weak spot": they can often be forced open from the outside with enough brute pull force. C.R. Laurence has officially engineered a way to close that gap with their exclusive BlumcraftÂŽ Security Latch.
This isn't just a minor tweak; itâs an industry-first design that creates a much more aggressive engagement with the overhead door strike. By utilizing a specialized security back plate, the latch becomes resilient against heavy exterior force, ensuring that the "clean look" of a glass entrance doesn't come at the cost of safety. Itâs the perfect blend of high-end architectural design and rock-solid mechanical engineering. Check out the full demonstration of this security breakthrough here:
1 https://youtu.be/inp9QzehEqA?si=18n5D...
Dig deeper
The engineering secret here is the security back plate. In a standard setup, the roller can actually be "popped" out of the strike if someone pulls hard enough from the exterior. The BlumcraftÂŽ system prevents this by ensuring the roller stays trapped in the strike socket, making it a complete fix for retail and office spaces that need maximum protection.

THE POWER OF THE SILENT FIX
Part 2
đď¸ THE POWER OF THE SILENT FIX đď¸
The storm has passed. The silence has won.
In Part 1, we saw the confrontation. The irate homeowner was doubling down, throwing a "non-apology" at our seasoned pro, Ed. He thought volume and aggression would get him what he wanted. He thought the Locksmith was the problem.
But Ed? Ed didnât argue. He didnât shout. He just went to work.
The Moment of Truth:
In the picture above, you see the "Final Blow." Itâs not a punch or a shoutâitâs the shining key.
While the homeowner was busy being mean, Ed was busy being a master. He solved the "impossible" problem. He did the miracle work. And when he held that key out with a calm, knowing look, the homeownerâs pride finally shattered.
He didn't just fix the lock; he broke the ego.
The homeowner realizes he was treating a genius like a "dirtbag." The tears are falling now. The "Please forgive me" isn't just about the lockâit's about the realization that he was dead wrong about the man behind the counter.
THE TAKEAWAY: True authority doesn't need to yell. It just needs to deliver. When you are the master of your craft, your results are your greatest weapon. You don't have to win the argument if you've already won the solution.
If you enjoy seeing the "little guy" with the big skills win the day, make sure you hit that Like button and Subscribe to Door and Lock Tips. Weâre here to make sure youâre never the one left standing outside in the coldâliterally or metaphorically!
đ Dig Deeper
The Psychology of the "Masterâs Stare":
When a professional remains calm in the face of a tantrum, it forces the aggressor to confront their own behavior. By holding the keyâthe very thing the homeowner neededâEd retains 100% of the power. The homeownerâs breakdown is a "Psychological Reset." He came in as a bully and left as a humbled student of the trade.
Don't forget to ring the bell đ so you never miss a lesson in locks or life!

đ "I'M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY" IS NOT AN APOLOGY. đ
Part 1 â The Encounter
đ "I'M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY" IS NOT AN APOLOGY. đ
Imagine the sound of a pin drop.
Weâve all been there. You stand there, a master of your craft, staring at a problem that isn't your fault. And across the counter, you have The Aggressive Homeowner.
He's irate. He's yelling. He's smashing a lock downâhis lock, mind youâdemanding you "fix it," acting as though you personally invented friction.
After the storm, when he finally pauses, he delivers the ultimate classic line of non-accountability:
"Well, I'm sorry you feel that way."
Itâs a dismissal. Itâs putting the problem onto your emotions, rather than his broken mechanics. It's a way for him to say: "Iâve done nothing wrong; you are just overreacting."
The Locksmithâs Calm Retort:
Our seasoned locksmith, Ed, just stares him down. His look isnât angry. Itâs a cold stare of 50 years' experience. A stare that says: "Iâm not responsible for this broken mess, and Iâm certainly not responsible for your bad behavior."
He doesn't bite. He doesn't yell back. He delivers the perfect, final combat sentence:
"THATâS NOT WHAT IâM ASKING YOU TO APOLOGIZE FOR."
Boom. The pin hits the wooden floor. You can hear it. He just reclaimed the ground, didn't he?
THE TAKEAWAY: In our trade, we fix broken things. We are problem solvers. We deal in reality, precision, and mechanics. When someone attempts to handle a mechanical problem with a manipulative statement, they are not only disrespecting the trade, they are doubling down on their own error.
If your lock is broken, donât blame the guy holding the tools.
A Quick Analogy for the Irritable:
Imagine you smash your own windshield and then demand the mechanic apologize because you are upset about having a broken windshield. Itâs not their fault itâs broken, and itâs certainly not their fault youâre a jerk about it.
We've got Ed on this job. The silence hanging in the air is deafening. He is waiting for actual accountability, not a deflection.
But what happens next? Does the homeowner keep doubling down, or does he break?
𤍠This conversation isn't over. Weâve reached the confrontation, but we haven't reached the resolution. Stand by for Part 2âbecause Ed isn't done teaching. The conclusion of the matter is coming... and the cool way to win this game is one you won't want to miss.
Comment "LOCKS" below if youâve had to give "The Cold Stare" before! đ
