Rahul Dev Burman | The Pancham

This channel is dedicated to the life and works of Rahul Dev Burman, a music composer and singer, one of the greatest in the Indian music industry.

Nicknamed Pancham, meaning the fifth note in Hindustani Classical Music, he was born to the composer and singer, Sachin Dev Burman, and his lyricist wife Meera Dev Burman, in Calcutta, on 27 June 1939. From the 1960s to the 1990s, he composed musical scores for 331 films and many non film albums, bringing a new level of music ensemble with his compositions. In 1994, he collaborated with Vidhu Vinod Chopra for his magnum opus 1942: A Love Story. Its music was a huge chartbuster and the third best-selling Hindi film album of 1994. He died on 4 January 1994, a few days before the release of the film, and was posthumously awarded his third Best Music Director at the 40th Filmfare Awards.
