If you're tired of gossip and want to talk in-depth about K-pop, we got you!

Hi, we're Popsori! We go beyond the K-pop iceberg, where it's a play on the iceberg meme of going beyond the surface or superficial of a topic. Our videos break down the business, marketing, and groups of both the K-pop and J-pop industries in a fun and educational way.

Popsori is hosted by Jason, a former media member, brand marketer, data scientist, and pop journalist in Seoul for 12 years. He has covered over 700 K-pop concerts, anime cons, gaming shows, and movie festivals as press/industry/VIP. He has also collaborated with over 80 K-pop label brands.

These days, he's a K-pop business strategist, campaign director of events, and content creator.

As for the name Popsori, it's a play on the Korean word pansori, a traditional form of music. But we used "pop" (meaning popular) and "sori" (meaning sound) instead.

We hope you learn more about K-pop with us!

Hiya everyone!

It’s been a while since my last YouTube video. I just checked, and it’s been 3 months since early April. Major apologies for the absence, but there’s been a few big reasons why I’ve been away from the channel.

Over the past few months, my K-pop life has gotten wildly busy, especially on the creative side of the music industry.

One of the biggest updates: I’m now the Creative Producer and Manager for an upcoming city pop artist named YOOMEi, whose official debut is just around the corner on July 30!

She’s a former K-pop and J-pop trainee, having worked with companies like HYBE, MODHAUS, WakeOne, and others before going independent in late 2024. It’s been a surreal experience helping shape her debut and managing everything from her upcoming music video (“Ever Begin”) to contract negotiations and creative direction.

If you're curious to learn more about this journey, here’s the official PR and my personal reflection on stepping into this new role:

📌 Official PR Statement

I hope to eventually share a full behind-the-scenes video about how I got pulled into the music side of the industry — it’s been quite the ride.

The second big update: I’m the Campaign Director for Strategic Marketing for HYOLYN’s upcoming concert in Sacramento (Thunder Valley Casino Resort).

📍 HYOLYN Concert Poster

This role has me working directly with both the US and Korean teams — everything from negotiating contracts to overseeing marketing, partnering with influencers and K-pop stores, and managing logistics.

To be honest, I’ve gained a lot of insight into why some K-pop concerts don’t perform well, and surprisingly, it’s often not the artist or even the marketing team. There are so many unseen challenges behind the scenes, and I’ve learned so much about the realities of concert planning these past 8 months.

But don’t worry! I’m not quitting YouTube!

I currently have two videos in the editing pipeline (when I can find time 😅):
1. Why certain U.S. cities get all the K-pop concerts while others get ghosted
2. A deep dive into the unique K-pop concept: K-pop Demon Hunter

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much. Your support — whether you’re watching, commenting, or just silently lurking — truly means the world to me. 💛

More videos (and stories) soon.

With the 1st week of Coachella wrapped up, how much of the music festival did you watch?

Hi everyone! I just took down the latest video on "APT and it's impact in K-pop."
The reason why is for some odd reason, the video was getting recommended by a lot of random, non-K-pop channels and sites. Since these people have no interest in K-pop at all, the video's CTR (click-through-rate) plummted fast.

As anyone that's heard of the YouTube algorithm, if people start skipping your video for any reason, the video's CTR becomes pretty bad. Then the YouTube algorithm thinks "oh, this video isn't good" and it just dies from there.

I'll upload the video in a couple days and probably add a bit more content. Hopefully, this time, the algorithm points the video to relevant K-pop fans, which is this channel's main audience.

If it bombs a second time, it's all good! I'll just leave the video up here.

Thanks for everyone that did watch it the first time!

Recently, I had the honor of being interviewed by Klab Company. Klab works behind-the-scenes in the K-pop industry, as their co-CEOs helped debut groups such as Apink, Beast, 4Minute, Mamamoo, and more.

They interviewed me on my K-pop origin story, how Popsori makes money, and how to break into the business inside of the K-pop industry.

Working behind-the-scenes and expanding Popsori's revenue are big reasons this channel didn't have as many videos in 2024. But don't worry, I plan to be more active on YouTube this year!

If the business side of K-pop and how Popsori operates behind-the-scenes interests you, I'm sure you'll like this interview:

I'm sure many people have already heard, but condolences and prayers for everyone affected by the Muan plane crash in Korea yesterday. Been reading and watching a lot of content on the plane crash today.

Truly tragic what happened, as this is the first plane accident by a Korean airline since 1997. Hopefully, Korean air officials can watch the crashed plane's black box, learned what happened, and prevent another tragedy like this again.

Just got back from the MAMAs in LA this past weekend! There's a lot of behind-the-scenes, a private media day with JYP and RIIZE, and some craziness that happened during the music show.

So the next video will be about the 2024 MAMAs. Can't wait to talk about the event with everyone!

The next video will be about exploring K-pop crossovers with other pop culture fandoms. I'm a big fan of two pop culture mediums merging together.

So for this upcoming video, K-pop crosses over with the fighting game community (FGC).

We talked to the FGC about their love for K-pop at the largest fighting game convention and tournament in the world, EVO. For those that don't know what EVO is, think of a big event that's all about games such as Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear: Strive, and so on.

We had the honor to interview official EVO staff, a fighting game VTuber, a gaming social media specialist, a professional fighting game player, and a fighting game legend.

After talking to the FGC at EVO, one thing's certain: fighting game fans definitely know their K-pop! We'll explore why the FGC are some of the most underrated K-pop fans out there!

The upcoming video comes out this Monday on November 11 at 5:00 pm PST / 8:00 pm EST / Tuesday 9:00 am Korea Time. Can't wait for everyone to watch it!

Hi everyone! While I did say last time that the Hybe vs. Min Hee-jin case would be the next video, there's been so much new information in the past month that I had to keep adding new info. I want to make the video as in-depth and truthful as possible, so that video won't be coming out for awhile.

Instead, I shot some other videos in the meantime. The newest video is actually coming out today called "Real Talk: The Unacceptable Treatment of Stray Kids by US Paparazzi." Seeing Stray Kids being treated horribly got me angry and I had to do a video on it.

This video comes out at 2 pm PT (Friday) / 5 pm ET (Friday) / 6 am Korea Time (Saturday).

I hope you guys enjoy the video! And thanks for understanding the delay on the Hybe and Min Hee-jin video.

Now that it's been a couple weeks since the Hybe vs. Min Hee-jin news came out, I have enough material to make a video on the controversy. So look forward to that video next.

Until then, I'd like to hear your take.
Who do you think is more at fault so far?

Just a quick post: I took down the "A Day in the Life of K-pop Store Owner" video and will reupload it tomorrow with some minor changes.

I had some people tell me there was some peaking with the sound (it would get too loud at points) and debated whether to take it down for the past two days.

I decided to pull it down and lower the volume in certain parts of the video.

The video will be reuploaded tomorrow Sunday at 9:00 am PT / 12:00 pm ET / 1:00 am on Monday Korea time.

Apologies and thanks for understanding!
