"Unbelievable Adventures of Italians in Russia", comedy

A Russian emigrant died in one of the Roman hospitals. Before death, the old lady told her granddaughter Olga that all her huge fortune was hidden in Leningrad “under the lion”. This circumstance was the reason for the urgent flight to Russia of all those who, by chance or on purpose, were initiated into this secret...

Some facts about the picture:

Antonia Santilli, who played Olga, was known as an Italian photo model. However, earlier, Antonia, has already acted in films. It is noteworthy that for the sake of a role in Ryazanov's film, she refused to participate in the American drama "Serpico" with Al Pacino in the title role.

The film is full of impressive stunts and action scenes, and the most spectacular is the plane landing on the car highway. The runway for planes was marked like the highway, and the cars were driven by stuntmen and pilots. The pilots knew what to look for when landing the liner and could quickly leave the trajectory if something did not go according to plan.

Most of the stunts in the car chase were performed by Italian racing driver and stuntman Sergio Mioni. For example, the famous "Zhiguli" flight across the river. A springboard was built on the banks of the Klyazma river. Sergio accelerated the car and flew through the air for almost 40 meters, landing on the other side.

Scenes with the participation of the lion were filmed at night and in the early morning on the deserted streets of Leningrad. Just in time for the white nights.

On February 24 the online premiere of the film (with english subtitles) will take place on our channel.
Viewing the picture will be available from 7:00 PM (Moscow time).

"Garage", comedy

The idea to write the script came to Eldar Ryazanov after a meeting of shareholders of a garage-building cooperative, where they decided who would be left without a garage. The director was very upset by what he saw, in his memoirs he wrote: “Among those present there were many of my acquaintances, whom I considered decent. But there I saw a gathering of people devoid of conscience, who had forgotten about justice, people who were indifferent and cowardly. It was as if the masks of decency were suddenly sleeping, revealing the ugliness of faces. Most of all, Ryazanov was upset by his behavior - he did not stand up for colleagues from the "black list"...

The film "Garage" and the role of the hero who drew the lot became an attempt to apologize for his behavior.

On the set, Eldar Ryazanov gathered the best Soviet actors. To do this, he spent a lot of time going around theaters and asking for stage stars for only a month and a half. The director kept his word - "Garage" was filmed in 24 days, which was almost a record! Filmed simultaneously with three cameras, and at the same time almost all the actors were in focus and could not get out of the role for a minute. Fortunately, the team gathered professional and friendly, so such hard work was easy.

On February 17 the online premiere of the film (with english subtitles) will take place on our channel.
Viewing the picture will be available from 7:00 PM (Moscow time).

"The Elusive Avengers", one of the most iconic action movie in Soviet Union

The idea to shoot a domestic adventure western was born at the highest authorities — against the backdrop of the success of the American film "The Magnificent Seven", which was released, Nikita Khrushchev ordered to shoot something similar, but in domestic realities. The Central Committee of the Komsomol decided to shoot the story "The Red Devils" about three teenagers who made their way into the army of Budyonny (one of the first marshals of the Soviet Union) through gangs of enemy troops. The story had already gone through one "silent" film adaptation in 1923, but now it was decided to make a blockbuster out of it.

In the roles of teenagers, director Edmond Keosayan planned to shoot VGIK students, but they looked older than necessary according to the plot. The tests went on for a long time, since there were quite a lot of requirements for each hero.

The teenagers were coached by wrestling, horseback riding, swimming, diving coaches, and as a result, they performed almost all the stunts in the film themselves - professional stuntmen replaced only in the most dangerous scenes. The performers of the main roles themselves had to be understudies for other actors, and act in extras. There were not enough people on the set, so sometimes the main characters had to change into enemy costumes and go in pursuit of themselves.

On December 23 the online premiere of the film (with english subtitles) will take place on our channel.
Viewing the picture will be available from 7:00 PM (Moscow time).

"I walk around Moscow", comedy

The idea of the film came up with the famous soviet poet and screenwriter Gennady Shpalikov. He came to director George Danelia and said that he had a great idea: “It's raining, a girl is walking barefoot in the middle of the street, shoes in her hands. A guy appears on a bicycle, slowly follows the girl. The guy holds an umbrella over the girl, she dodges, and he keeps following her and smiling ... Do you like it?“ Danelia liked the idea, and they started working on the script. The work went on during the filming process - some episodes were re-shot, others appeared, new characters were introduced, new actors were selected... The result was a picture that began to be called "the anthem of the youth of the 60s."

The film was presented at the 17th Cannes Film Festival in 1964. George Danelia was awarded a special honorable mention by the jury among young filmmakers.

On November 11 the online premiere of the film will take place on our channel.

"Air Crew", disaster movie

Some facts about the picture:

Alexander Mitta (the director) decided to make the first Soviet disaster film after watching the screen adaptation of Arthur Hailey's "Airport". Hollywood films at that time rarely reached Soviet cinemas, and it was decided to create own blockbuster - an action-packed film, the action of which would be built around a plane crash. However, Alexander Mitta knew that special effects alone would not be enough for the Soviet audience, so he decided to make this movie in several more genres - melodrama, comedy and science fiction...

The picture "Air Crew" became not only the first Soviet disaster film and the first film with an erotic scene, but also the first experience of producing. Part of the money for the filming was allocated by Aeroflot, however, with several conditions. In addition to financial support, Aeroflot provided the film crew with decommissioned aircraft and equipment, vacated several runways and premises. In addition, the company's specialists made several models of aircraft for combined shooting.

To film a flaming plane at an African airport, pyrotechnicians decided to set fire to a decommissioned Tu-114. They poured diesel fuel into the plane, laid wires and began to wait for the start of shooting. But the wires sparked and the plane burst into flames. Everyone around was worried, they urgently called Mitta in order to have time to remove the fire, but while the director was driving, the plane managed to burn out unplanned...

From the "main character" - the Tu-154 aircraft, only the tail was found for filming. The plane recently took to the tracks, and there was simply no decommissioned air transport. But it turned out that in one Siberian city, one of the liners caught fire during landing, and only a fragment remained of it. The tail was brought to Moscow's Vnukovo airport and a scene of skin repair in the air was filmed in it. One of the main characters allegedly got out of a flying plane and, to the whistle and roar of engines, which imitated a powerful wind blower, was repairing the liner ...
While the tail was being removed, the "body" appeared. Mercury spilled on one of the planes, and it was sent for repairs. The director went to talks with the Minister of Aviation in order to quickly shoot several scenes there before the aircraft returned "to service". The minister allowed, on one condition, to shoot a movie as popular as "Heavenly slug"...

On October 28 the online premiere of the film will take place on our channel.
Viewing the picture will be available from 7:00 PM (Moscow time).

"Kuban Cossacks", musical comedy

The film tells the story of the relationship between the chairmen of two advanced collective farms - Galina and Gordei - who hide their love from the whole world, because they are old competitors in terms of economic indicators. Moreover, each of them must defend the honor of own collective farm at the autumn fair, without giving vent to their feelings.

Despite the apparent drama of the plot, the tape remains a comedy - lively and sincere. The film sparkles with kindness and good mood - bright colors, perky remarks, cheerful laughter and expressive gestures give the viewers a smile on their faces.

However, the film was created in rather difficult conditions. There were difficult post-war years, and the Soviet people, who survived the Great Patriotic War, needed a completely new cinema. The changed people's consciousness, spiritual culture and way of life - all this is reflected in the "Kuban Cossacks".

Ivan Pyryev himself (the director of the picture) admits that The Kuban Cossacks was not conceived as a realistic film about the life and work of collective farmers of that time, but he did not spare the actors on the set. They really fully tried on the images of their heroes: they learned to work on tractors and combines, mastered the skills of riding, etc. And such "training" played an important role - the picture turned out to be lively, bright, but at the same time not devoid of a theatrical touch.

The film was released in 1949 and was warmly received by both the audience and critics. Such a reaction is quite understandable: after the hardest war, which left behind many destroyed cities and burned villages, a shattered economy, the people needed faith in a better and brighter future that they themselves can build.

On October 14 the online premiere of the film will take place on our channel.
Viewing the picture will be available from 7:00 PM (Moscow time).

"Ballad of a soldier", drama

Some facts about the picture:

Film director Grigory Chukhrai and screenwriter Valentin Yezhov went through the war, so they immediately found a common language. The former front-line soldiers wrote the script together - they divided big scenes into episodes, wrote what they liked, and then gave it to each other text for editing.

Work has begun. Well-known Soviet actors were approved for the main roles, but on the third day of shooting, Chukhrai was hit by a car and taken to the hospital with a broken leg and collarbone. The fractures were severe and the healing took several months. During this time, Chukhrai decided to replace actors with unknown young students for the main roles. Upon leaving the hospital, the director began to look for new candidates.

The searching for debutants was so difficult that later Chukhrai admitted that he wanted to quit everything altogether and do something else. Colleagues have already begun to complain about the director - which disrupted the launch of production. In the end, he approved Vladimir Ivashov, a student from VGIK, for the main male role. Then it was up to the partner...

The first-year student of the Moscow Art Theater School-Studio Zhanna Prokhorenko failed the audition for an episode in another film and decided to go try to be an extra in Chukhrai picture. The director noticed her and approved her for the role of Shura.

There were some historical inaccuracies in the film, but Chukhrai deliberately went for them. At the beginning of the war, soldiers were not given vacations, but without this there would be no film... Soldiers did not wear shoulder straps at that time, but the director thought that the film would be shown abroad, where everyone knows the uniform of a Russian soldier. He wanted everyone to see this young man as a collective image of those who went through the war and brought victory to the world. So, despite the fact that the events take place in 1942, Alyosha is dressed in the uniform of the end of the war.

The director was catastrophically unlucky - after leaving the hospital, he almost immediately fell ill with typhoid fever. Then the film studio began to doubt the script - they began to consider it petty, pessimistic, not heroic, and even undermining the authority of the Soviet army. Later, they wanted to change the ending... In a word, they tried to make such a movie about the war, which Chukhrai really did not want. He just shot a film about one person from a whole generation that was decimated by the war.

At first, "The Ballad of a Soldier" appeared in a limited box office, but the success of the audience forced a revision of the rental category, and the film went everywhere. The success was stunning: more than 30 million people watched the picture in the USSR, and there was also a worldwide distribution! The Ballad of a Soldier became the absolute champion of awards among Soviet films - the drama and its creators received more than 100 international awards, including two special jury prizes at the Cannes Film Festival.

In the USA, Japan and Greece, "The Ballad of a Soldier" was recognized as the best film in 1960-1961, photos of actors and posters were printed in the Western press, director Paolo Pasolini and actress Liza Minelli were among the fans of the drama. The film's international fame brought it an Oscar nomination for the Best Original Screenplay.

On September 16 the online premiere of the film will take place on our channel.

«My Tender and Affectionate Beast», drama

Some facts about the picture:

Director Emil Loteanu has been looking for a story of a new film for more than a year, which would be even more successful than his previous drama «Gypsies are Found Near Heaven» (https://youtu.be/wo8Mi4bFq8g).At last he came across Anton Chekhov's story «A Hunting Accident». Loteanu decided to make it little bit lighter than the original work, but at the same time, from the very first frames, create a feeling of an impending drama ... First draft of the script was called «The Cage».

Searching for the main character was long and painful. The director's assistants traveled to different cities with a task from Loteanu: "Find one that will resemble Tatyana Samoilova, Audrey Hepburn and Lyudmila Savelyeva, but have her own face." Such a girl was found in the choreographic school of Voronezh. The director's assistant followed Galina Belyaeva for several days, until the student noticed the surveillance and asked the reason for such attention. She happily agreed to act in movie and handed over her photo to the director.

The director immediately gave the main male role to Oleg Yankovsky, but the actor asked for time to think. He enjoyed the original story «A Hunting Accident», but did not appreciate the script which was "based on". Yankovsky agreed only because he really wanted to work with the director of the bright film «Gypsies are Found Near Heaven». When Loteanu handed over the finished material to the artistic council, they also noted that there was nothing left of Chekhov, but there were no complaints about the script. The director was only asked to shorten some scenes and re-voice the main female character in the final - she was not supposed to speak with the same naive intonations as at the beginning of the picture. By this time, Loteanu had renamed «The Cage» to «My Tender and Affectionate Beast».

The famous waltz for the film was written by the composer Eugene Doga, who had already worked with the director on the drama «Gypsies are Found Near Heaven». Loteanu was used to shooting with ready-made music, so the whole crew waited for Doga to write the theme for the wedding scene. The composer disappeared into the archives - he was looking for waltzes of the late 19th century in order to write something similar, but everything he found seemed to him "rubbish". He convulsively wrote something, rejected it, wrote again, played examples for the director, and so on.

The wedding dance did not emerge ... But on one of the excerpts, Loteanu said “stop!” and asked to finish this melody. Doga finished the waltz overnight, handed it over to work in the morning, and in the evening the melody was already recorded by the cinematography orchestra. The composer said that he was in shock when the musicians finished playing the melody and began to clap the music stands with bows. He did not even realize that in this way the orchestra applauded him ...

It is still one of the most recognizable melodies of Soviet cinema. The waltz was played at the openings of the 1980 and 2014 Olympics, street musicians and professionals play it, choreographers and athletes put on dance numbers to it. Even US President Ronald Reagan was a fan of the melody - he called it "the waltz of the 20 century."

On September 2 the online premiere of the film will take place on our channel.
Viewing the picture will be available from 7:00 PM (Moscow time).
