Andrea Kuzmich is an award winning singer, a teacher, an ethnomusicologist and music facilitator. Her eclectic musical activities (from singing in a community immigrant Congolese choir to recording improvised and contemporary music for horror movie soundtracks) defy her conventional classical beginnings, where by the age of 16 she was a cellist with the McMaster Symphony and had performed in four different Canadian Opera Company productions. More recently, Andrea is known for her authentic performance styles in Ukrainian and Georgian vocal polyphony. She is particularly proud of her family’s ensemble Ori Shalva, which will be featured on The Ethnic Channel’s Sounds of Canada. But jazz is her first musical love that threw her passionately into a deeper pursuit of music.
