Agastheewaram - a whole Taluk named after Agasthyamuni in Bharat’s southern most Kanyakumari district. An ancient powerful temple is situated in a quiet village Vadugan Patru. Till 1956, this was part of the Travancore kingdom. Now it’s with the HR&CE of the TN government. Not much information is available about the temple.
It is so ancient that Appar has sung about this temple (vaippu sthalam). It is said he has worshipped Shiva here. Appar is dated 6-7 th century. By that time this temple was already established and well known. Wherever the Linga was worshipped by Agastya, it gets named as a Agasteeswara lingam.
This was a special visit for me because although I had connected a few things within me, I needed external validation. This is the first place where I came across a Agasteeswara linga as the presiding deity, with Parivara deities of MahaGanapathy, Subramanya, Agastyamuni, Naga Kudumba, Aroopa roopa (formless form) Devi, Sastha and Ayyappa - all within the same temple. There is also a vishnu temple within the premises.
Not many seem to visit the temple. We were the only ones for almost an hour. If you are visiting Kanyakumari, do add this to your itinerary.

Gangaikonda cholapuram - Means the city established in commemoration of conquering the Ganga. King Rajendra Cholan-1 conquered major parts of Karnataka, Andhra, Orissa upto Bengal. The king is said to have ordered Ganga water to be transported in many pots to fill the well in this temple. This was completed around 1035 AD. Being the son of Rajaraja chola who built the Thanjavur temple, he shifted the capital to Gangaikonda cholapuram. It remained a glorious city for 250 years.
Standing there and walking around and inside, one can feel the sheer devotion, dedication and skills of people 1000 years ago.
Archeological survey shows an existence of a whole city established as per Agama tradition with thriving music, arts, dance, martial arts and weaponry etc. There are many mounds spread across a large area, which are remnants of many temples including Vishnu and Dharma Sastha temples. Only this temple withstood the destructive conquests of the Moghuls during 14-15th centuries. Later this was renovated and restored by the Vijayanagara kings.
It is located on a beautiful stretch of highway between Trichy and Thanjavur. A must visit to experience what human hands are capable of manifesting..

Kalyana Theertham- a series of waterfalls and quite a few cave shrines are nestled in the dense reserve forests of western ghats near Papanasam. The shiva linga, Devi and Agastyamuni vigraha are not maintained daily as it is a remote place. The day I went, nobody except the 3 of us were there. The statue of Agastya and Lopamudra together is no more there. We were told it got washed away in a flood. As we finished shooting and about to leave, a group of 15-20 people arrived with the poojari and all pooja materials. They requested us also to stay and participate in the pooja. They also sang bhajans. In front of our eyes (and camera) the abishekam and alankaram of Agastyamuni unfolded.
Since the filming of Agasthyamuni began in 2019, it has been a torrent of information… Many doors opened, revealing from the quiet corners of His path, lesser-known places offering themselves as if waiting to be seen for centuries.
Last few months, I’ve been watching all footages, processing this mammoth phenomenon, how it can be packaged to publish as episodes for u all to watch. And as if this wasn’t enough, Shri Vijaykumar has been digging out lots of long forgotten info about the Maha Muni from books almost a century old.
This process has overwhelmed me so much that it made me go into periods of silence and stillness.
It is also clear to me now that what I have documented till now is but a tip of the iceberg and will be season-1 (with 6-7 episodes) of a much bigger series. When such forces overwhelm you, best way is to let them do the work and remain as a malleable tool in their hands. Hopefully before end of this year Season-1 should be out - subject to His will and blessings 🙏🏽🙌😊

In January, had the privilege and fortune of interacting and interviewing the present Adheenam (spiritual and administrative head) of the Perur madam (mutta) in Coimbatore. This lineage started in the 16th century. Apart from various other social, Tamil literary activities, they also administer the 1000 yr old Patteeswarar temple in Perur.
It was an intense experience to be part of their evening Sandhya pooja conducted by the Adheenam himself. There was also another pooja happening with the Adheenam initiating people into a pooja with a personal lingam.
The Adheenam conducts workshops and classes to teach people of all ages. The topics cover a range from the basics of Shaiva tradition, pooja vidhanams, mantra initiations and many more. He also travels overseas to conduct these workshops.
Thanks to Gowri Shankar Anna for organising the interview and meeting🙏🏽😊 it was enriching and enlightening about many aspects of Tamil Shaiva tradition I didn’t know about .

Our expert explorer/researcher from Sadhguru Shribrahma series, Vijayakumar continues his findings for Agasthyamuni documentary as well. In January, few days after my surgery, he sent me the location which said Muniyandi Koil, but pictures looked like Agastyamuni. How can I hold back when Agastyamuni calls!
Located in-between Rajapalayam and Thenkasi in Tamilnadu, I drove, followed Google maps and landed at a lake. Then, after locally enquiring, I reached this Muniyandi Koil on the other side of the lake. We don’t know how it got named after Muneeswaran, a guardian grama devata. But I found Agastyamuni standing there in an isolated open shrine at the foothills. There is also ancient rock inscriptions which were not legible for me to read.
After taking few shots of the spot and of Agastyamuni, as I was leaving I saw a small structure with the gate saying “Sadhguru paradesi Kadunkaappi Siddhar” and “Balatripurasundari aalayam”. There was nobody around and I opened the gate and walked in .
I met the Siddhar and spent quite some time interacting with him. After retiring from police service as a Head constable, his life got taken over by Bala Tripura Sundari. In the southern siddha traditions, She is referred to as Vaalai. She is held as the Guru - who sits at the center of the Sri Chakra and the Sri Meru. He has established a temple with a similar structure, with other Devis and devatas and Siddhars in concentric circles around Her.
Kadunkaappi Siddhar - the name means ‘very strong coffee’. He also took me inside his room and showed me the samadhi that he has built for himself as per Balatripurasundari’s instructions. His journey itself is interesting which also I documented along with details about Agastyamuni who stands way behind his temple at the foothills.
Another interesting encounter and interaction in my journey of Agastyamuni 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙇🏻♂️😊

8/8 Kashi Musings: The panchakroshi yatra ends at the confluences of Varuna and Ganga. The name Varanasi comes from the landmass between rivers Varuna and Assi. Sri Adikeshav Vishnu stands here to bless and fulfill all the prayers of the devotees on completion of their yatra.
The sanctum also houses the Keshav Aditya, one of the 12 Aditya (Sun) temples of Kashi. They are situated exactly in alignment with the 12 zodiacal transitions of the sun through the year.
For most who visit Kashi, Adikeshav Vishnu is less known and least visited. This is situated in Omkareshwar khand of Kashi. Omkareshwar, Madhmaheshwar and Kedareshwar are the three khands or zones which also represent the three points of Shiva’s Trishul on which Kashi is supposed to be standing on.
The last of the 56 Ganeshas, when one does the Chappan (56) Vinayak yatra, is also situated near the Adikeshav temple.
How auspicious it is for the pilgrims to be starting the panchakroshi yatra and ending it with one of the 56 Ganeshas of Kashi. They are situated in 7 concentric circles situated radiating in 8 cardinal directions.
