There’s nothing like a hometown hero, as they often provide a territorial inspiration that can carry the local citizens to
the mountain tops of pride and bravado. The Strut Down is the latest LP from Rojai and should carry this “Screeching
Falcon of Funk”, as he is known to his acolytes, to new heights. The Strut Down follows up brilliantly to 2013’s
Hardpressed, with major contributions from producer E Live as well as input from B. Bravo, and vocal contributions
from Povi, Sally Greene, Kimmie La Funk, and Sonya Distal. Grammy nominated horn players, Mario Silva and Garret
Kobsef, make this ten song album a modern cornucopia of electro grooves, breezy guitar riffs, and baselines, that
bubble sublimely under Rojai’s signature crooning. As the primary song writer, Rojai intentionally pays tribute to the
funk of the late 70s and early 80s, with honey dripping, sticky sweet melodies and infectious chorus lines, that
communicate the simple yet profound message.
