Carl Doy is a British-born New Zealand pianist, composer, and arranger, famous for his Piano by Candlelight series, which has sold over three million copies worldwide. Born in Camberley, England, in 1947, Doy showed early musical talent and earned a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where he studied piano, organ, and composition. He began his career on cruise ships before moving to New Zealand in 1973, where he became a leading session musician for TVNZ and arranged major works like the Royal Variety Performance for Queen Elizabeth II and a papal mass. In 1987, he launched Piano by Candlelight, which went platinum in the U.S. and topped charts in New Zealand. His arrangements have been performed by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and his Together 10-CD set appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s "Favorite Things." Doy was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his contributions to music and continues to blend classical elegance with contemporary warmth.
