Added a video on the spiral tool, it is about more than just that but as you can see I am never one for creating videos with titles like '10 Hidden Spiral Secrets' or 'Millions of Designs in Seconds and super easy' etc, I have tried those a few times and I don't think my heart is ever in them. The spiral video does show tons of ways to create all kinds of unique designs, abstract designs, path brush designs, dash designs and more ... there is a lot in the video and hopefully it shows that the spiral tool, tucked away at the bottom of the shapes tools is a pretty wow tool in Affinity 3.

Probably one of my favourite filter in Affinity 3 (well, today) has to be the twirl and it can be used to create all kinds of designs with basic shapes, gradients and more. You distort images etc in countless ways and control the radius angle as well as the origin point for the effect. The result of this design can be modified further by using adjustments. You can also use this colour swirl design in other ways such as using it as a source for patterns and use it with the mirror option on. The layers can then be combine in multiple ways, rotated, distorted, scaled and more and used with different blending modes as well. As with all these designs, you can select them in the layers panel and then use the assets panel to store them away or perhaps define it as a symbol and use multiple times and keep it live.

Just added a new video on the clipping masks in Affinity 3. Must admit, always had so many issues with clipping masks with so many different applications over the years such as Photoshop etc and they have always been a little elusive. Hopefully this video helps with them and shows they are pretty easy to use and add as well as very easy to manipulate the design to hide and reveal more or less of the image. They can be used to create all kinds of designs, you can also use them with many of the resources in Affinity 3 as well. Certain there many other ways to use them

In Affinity, you can create all kinds of shapes such as circles, rectangles, stars etc but for some reason there is no automatic zigzag or wave etc tool to create line designs (there is not even a line tool in Affinity 3) but you can create the shapes just by using the pen tool and setting it to the correct apply mode and create zigzags, sawtooth designs and more. This video shows you how to do this, you can also expand the design and use the design in even more ways pc or mac #affinity

This video shows how you can quickly create grids as well as rows and columns with basic shapes such as a rectangle, star, circle etc super easy as well as add gaps between these vectors. You can also combine them into a single shape super quick as well as combine with the shape presets to create millions of unique designs with a simple addition of pressing an arrow key on your keyboard such as up to remove rows and down to add additional rows of the same vector design. You can also continue to modify the shape as you hold down the mouse and apply the vector shapes. This is for use with Affinity 3 as well as the earlier versions of Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer etc

This video shows how you can use the amazing Image Trace Or Vector trace in Canva Affinity 3 to create melting effects, distort effects, fragmentations, rubber effects, oil paint imagery and more from any image - and it is super easy to do on the pc as well as mac. You can adapt the technique to be used with all kinds of blurs such as box blurs as well as all kinds of filter effects such as distorts, halftones and much more. The result also can be used to create infinite variations with glass distortions, mirror effects and more as well. You can also use this with all kinds of layers such as a pattern layer (with conversion) to create amazing and unique tile effects. Affinity 3 Image trace is pretty limited with the functionality but these techniques extend it beyond that limitation to create truly awesome imagery

3.0.2 Affinity release is now out, lots of bug fixes but they have also added a new option to the edit > duplicate and that is layer. So we now have selected, linked and layer. The layer just duplicates everything in the layer, the selected only duplicates what is in a selection, though it does duplicate the layer if there is no selection (surely nothing should be duplicated in that case ??) and the linked which is one of those amazing features that sort of works like a symbol and you can manipulate it via the linked window and general menu and links.

I would love to see the edit > duplicate include a duplicate > random size or duplicate > random colour or duplicate > random rotation (or more sensibly, edit > duplicate > random > rotation, size, colour, opacity, position, all transforms, stroke, etc
Doubt if it will happen but I would love to see more randomisation in the tool

www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/edwin-austi… An interesting addition to the UK's National Gallery, something I didn't think I would see (but then again, they did recently have an exhibition with a Marvel comic on display). Not exactly a comic artist but certainly an amazing illustrator that appeared in many magazines so it is great to see Edwin Austen Abbey in a gallery exhibition, for free, at the National.
Perhaps Jack Kirby or Wally Wood will be on display at the National in the future ? Who would you like to see get an exhibition ??
