How dare I still be breathing?! "Because I have damn well earned the right to keep on living." (David Baldacci)
That profile photo was taken by a saxophone teacher at a rehearsal in Bristol in 2009. At Colston Hall. They have meanwhile renamed it the Bristol Beacon.
Zen Buddhism teaches that it's best to accept the hurtful nature of some people. You can't change it. Neither can they. They are what they are. It's their nature.
Zen doesn't teach to be foolish, however. Zen also teaches that you should look after yourself and your health. You need food, for starters.
Society, that's a different matter. We are society. We bear individual responsibility for what happens in society. Strong and smart people bear a greater responsibility than weak people. Because being strong and smart isn't earned, but a gift to be thankful for.
