The Story of KT

We kept seeing Mặn Mòi – Ben Thanh online, and with so many people recommending it, we finally decided to experience it for ourselves.

The restaurant is known for traditional Vietnamese food and has received thousands of Google reviews, so naturally our expectations were pretty high. But as we’ve learned, a popular restaurant and a great personal experience are not always the same thing.

For this meal, we tried several dishes together, including beef porridge, morning glory, and green papaya salad. We also looked at the atmosphere, the service, the portions, and whether the total price of 1,022,700 VND, around $39 USD, felt worth it.

What made the experience especially interesting was hearing both of our perspectives.

Ngan could look at the dishes through her Vietnamese background and familiarity with local flavors, while KT experienced the meal through his own taste and expectations. Sometimes we agree immediately, and sometimes we notice completely different things. That is part of what makes trying food together so much fun for us.

So, was this really one of the best restaurants we have tried in Ho Chi Minh City?
Was it worth the price?

The Story of KT

There was a point in my life when everything in the United States started to feel heavy.

I had built a business. I had responsibilities. I had a routine that looked normal from the outside.

But inside, I felt overwhelmed.

I was working, paying bills, handling problems, and constantly trying to keep everything moving. I was surviving, but I did not feel like I was really living.

So in 2018, I made a decision that changed my life.

I left San Diego.

I did not leave because I hated America. I left because I needed space to think, breathe, and figure out what I actually wanted my life to look like.

I traveled across the United States, then spent time living in the Netherlands, Greece, and Tunisia. Eventually, I arrived in Vietnam in early 2020.

I had no idea Vietnam would become home.

Almost seven years later, I have lived in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and rural Vietnam. I have worked here, built businesses here, learned from my mistakes, experienced the culture up close, met the woman who would become my wife, and got married here.

Vietnam became more than a place I moved to.

It became the place where I rebuilt my life.

Vietnam did not magically solve every problem, but leaving gave me another perspective.

It showed me that the life you are living right now is not always the only life available to you.

Sometimes you are not failing.

Sometimes you are simply in an environment that no longer fits who you are becoming.

That is one of the main reasons I started The Story of KT.

I know what it feels like to want a change but have no idea where to begin.

I know what it feels like to search online and find conflicting information about visas, housing, dating, travel, money, business, and daily life in another country.

And I know how expensive the wrong decision can become.

The Story of KT was created to help people explore another way with clearer information and realistic expectations.

Not everyone needs to leave the United States.

Not everyone should move to Vietnam.

But everyone deserves to know that they have options.

The new website brings everything together in one place, whether you are thinking about moving, traveling, dating, finding housing, or exploring business opportunities in Vietnam.
