In December of 2022, I was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome. I was accepted into the bone marrow transplant program at Norris Comprehensive Cancer Hospital on the campus of USCin downtown LA.
Out of the "Be The Cure" database of just over 40 million people worldwide, they found one donor with a 12 out of 12 chromosome match.
I am scheduled to go to USC for a bone marrow biopsy in 2 weeks, and if enough of the cancer cells have been killed by the chemotherapy, it's possible they will arrange my transplant sometime in mid-April.
Since my car accident 21 years ago, I can't do many of the hobbies that brought me so much pleasure, like bowling, golfing, snow and water skiing, or even swimming. The chronic pain in my neck has continued, even after the double disk fusion surgery I had back in 2004. So, in order to find a creative outlet that I can do here at the house, I have rediscovered my love for photography.
