They lost their childhoods to the flames of war and were forced into sexual slavery.
They endured decades of silence, carrying their solitude alone.
Today, only a few remain alive – their voices and memories fading into history.
CGTN's original documentary "Last Daughters" traces the stories of sex slaves (so-called "comfort women") who survived in China and the Philippines during World War II, and explores the lasting impact on their descendants.
Through a cross-border perspective, the film reveals the deep scars left by war and captures the quiet resilience and warmth that endured even in the darkest moments of human suffering.

Today, we ask you to pause and listen.
Listen to the voices of women from across Asia and Europe, who were among the countless victims of the Japanese military's sexual slavery (so-called "comfort women") during #WWII. Each one of them carried memories too heavy for one lifetime. However, before they vanished, they chose to speak.
They are the reason we made our documentary film, #LastDaughters . Let's fill this space with their memory and ensure their legacy endures.

Many people have never heard of Japan's "comfort women" system during WWII. Here are five key facts about this shocking practice. #LastDaughters
1. The "wartime comfort women" were victims of sexual slavery by the Japanese military during #WWII.
2. Per estimates, at least 400,000 women globally were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military.
3. They were mostly from China, the Korean Peninsula, the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia and the Netherlands. Half of the victims – some 200,000 – were from China.
4. These women endured horrific conditions, including repeated rape, beatings and torture. Many did not survive, with some estimates suggesting a 90 percent death rate.
5. Survivors and advocates are still waiting for a formal apology and legal reparations from the Japanese government.
