Hi, I’m Lowell — a 70-year-old sailor, author, and proud never-too-later.

A few years ago, I set out to cross the Pacific solo before turning 70.
Life had other plans. For health reasons, I let that dream go —
but I didn’t leave the sea.

I still live aboard my sailboat Wahine, currently moored in Amami Ōshima, as I continue exploring Japan by wind, tide, and rail. Since January 2025, I’ve also been working on my new book,
Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan,
which has taken me on land to interview remarkable elders and visit longevity “hot spots” across the country.

Wahine remains my home, studio, and floating laboratory —
a place where stories, people, and ideas come together.
I continue to discover that dreams don’t always end —
Sometimes, they evolve.

If you’re curious about
life aboard, slow travel, Japan’s hidden corners, aging with purpose,
or what happens when you keep chasing wonder at 70…
Come aboard. The voyage continues.
