It all began with a curtain, some scrap fabric, and a bottle of dye.
I’m so glad you’re liking the glow-up the maxi skirt got. I have details on my reel about the changes I made to the free Luciana dress pattern from @fabricsstorecom . I used @ritdye royal blue in the washing machine to add color to these fabrics that started as an oatmeal color.
Thanks for hanging around as I experiment and share projects. I hope it inspires you to try new things.
You can make just one or make a whole sheet pan to feed a crowd at once.
For One: •Get a plate that is raised at the edges and dips down in the center. •Spray a spritz of nonstick cooking spray. •Put a ring of shredded cheese on the outside edge of the tortilla. •Crack an egg in the center (could also scramble an egg). •Stick in the toaster oven (or regular oven) until the cheese is bubbly and the egg is cooked to your liking. •Take out and salt, pepper, season to your liking. •Immediately fold it over into a taco.
You could add other toppings, but be sure to leave the egg yolk uncovered so it can cook.
For a Crowd: You’ll do the same process in the oven on a lined cookie sheet. It does work the same, but if your oven leans at all or your cookie sheet has a bend in it, the eggs may slide off. The ring of cheese around the egg usually does a good job of holding it in place.
This is so easy. I like it for making something quick for myself. I also like that I can make a pan of them, and we all eat at the same time without any eggs getting cold.
🌻I said goodbye to my 1971 VW Super Beetle convertible…and I made this duster cardigan to feel better about it. Has sewing turned into my coping mechanism?💛
You can watch my newest YouTube video to see how this Bug was a lifelong dream achieved.
The duster jacket is the Quince Robe pattern from @seamwork and is made from bath towels I picked up at @rossdressforless . Details about making this are also in the YouTube video.
This fabric and lettuce hem are very reminiscent (in a good way) of something I would have worn around 1997, but the bust line and exposed seams give it an updated twist.
This is the Celeste Frock pattern from @lydianaomistudio turned into a cropped shirt.
I initially thought I had enough fabric to make the full dress but discovered I didn’t as I laid out the pattern pieces. This was vintage fabric I had in my stash. My fabric only had 40% stretch, and I couldn’t find any locally with the required 50% stretch, so I made some changes to the pattern. I sewed it as directed, and the top fit like a body suit. It was a fun look, but I definitely wanted something looser. I added a back panel to add width. Instead of tapering the neckline of the panel, I made a mini cowl neck at the back. I thought since I was already experimenting by this point that I’d keep going. I added an optional extension at the back of the shirt that could add length or could be tucked under to keep it cropped.
I plan on making this pattern again in the dress length once I can find the right fabric.
I don’t have any great photos to share of this dip, because I’ve been in a hurry to serve it the last two times I’ve made it. 🤪
I first posted this recipe on my blog in 2010 with a slight difference (used less ranch dressing and used Louisiana hot sauce to taste). It was a favorite dish for both my workplace and my husband’s workplace. This is great for a potluck or as an appetizer.
Ingredients: •8 oz. cream cheese •8 oz. sour cream •1/4 cup ranch dressing •1/4 to 1/2 cup of Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo sauce (depending on how spicy you want it, add even more!) •2 cups cooked chicken, shredded •1/2 cup shredded cheddar, mixed in •Shredded cheddar for topping
1. Stir together all ingredients into a baking dish. It’s okay if your cream cheese isn’t fully incorporated when you start. Just be sure to cut it into smaller pieces. 2. Put the dish into a preheated 350 degree oven. 3. Take out the dish after 10 minutes to stir everything together. 4. Bake another 10 minutes, and then stir. 5. Bake another 10 minutes (30 minutes total baking time at this point), and then stir. 6. Top with shredded cheese, and put back in the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling. (Third photo is what it looks like at this point.) 7. Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, and veggies.
You can microwave instead of using your oven, but it won’t stay warm as long. You could do this in a crockpot, and that would keep it warm the longest. This can also be served cold, but I prefer it warm.
I’ve been wanting to make corsets/stays/bodices for almost all of 2022. I finally got around to it towards the end of the year. This is the Spearmint Corset from @Mood_Fabrics and it’s a free pattern!
I used some fabric that I’ve had for about a decade on one side and some hand-me-down fabric for the other side. Yep, it’s reversible! I didn’t get photos of the other side, so I’ll share that another day.
Some notes about the process: •When you print out the pattern, you measure the test square to make sure it prints to the correct size. The test square never measured exactly as it needed to. My guess is it’s something on the pattern end. It’s not off by much, but every bit matters in sewing. Keep that in mind if you’re between sizes. •I added bias tape all around, including at the grommet edges. •I added interfacing between the fabric where the grommets went to add some structure and strength. •Boning is optional for this pattern. I went to pick some up, and the store was out. Now I wish I had some at the sides of the grommets. You can see the fabric bunching at the back. Boning is definitely necessary to keep the back from bunching once you lace. •I made the corset reversible by making two of the corsets, laying them wrong sides together, then finishing with store-bought bias tape. •I laced with the “bunny ears” method (can find that on YouTube) so I could lace without any help. •I used ribbon for the lacing at the back and shoulders.
I definitely would make this again (with boning added at the back!). It’s a good way to use up scrap fabric.
I have more corset patterns I’m itching to try. Let me know if you have suggestions!
Unlike the apple slices, these aren’t snacks— they’re decor!
Thinly slice oranges, set them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake at 170 degrees. Flip the slices every hour. I let mine bake all day to dry out. You don’t want the rind to burn, but you’re good to leave them in for several hours as long as you keep turning them.
To make a hole in the orange slices, I used the round end of a whisk that clicks into my hand mixer. You want to punch the hole at the top, right under the rind.
Use twine to string them up. On my pegboard, I just strung them on and moved them where I wanted them. In my kitchen window, I knotted them in place one at a time. Knotting them will make them face out flat. Just stringing them makes them turn to their side.
Here’s a sweet snack that you could make with your kids. Or do it by yourself (that’s what I did 😋).
Thinly slice apples, lay them on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper, sprinkle one side with cinnamon and/or sugar, bake at 200 degrees. Flip the apples every hour. Bake until they get as crispy as you like.
Make these when you’ll be home all day. I was doing chores and set hourly timers to remember to flip them. The house smelled amazing, and I got a snack at the end of the day! I want to give these a go in my air fryer, so I’ll let you know how that goes.

The cabinet door finally has glass! I posted a short about cutting the cabinet and cutting the glass. This little bit of work saved me so much money.
I also styled the cabinet for spring, using family pieces, thrifted pieces, and some of my Fiestaware collection.
