Afenginn, aka composer Kim Rafael Nyberg, is at the forefront of expanding the musical language of Scandinavia. 15 years, 7 albums, and 10 awards later, Afenginn continues to surprise and excite audiences with fresh approaches to composition while creating a deeply compassionate narrative on the nordic experience, our relationship to the natural environment, and the nature of human systems, in all their elegance and brutality.
The latest Afenginn work, Opus is a chamber pop symphony in four movements, each with its own distinct color and mood, from dreamy to sweeping. With an ensemble of violin, mandolin, clarinet, marimba, cello, and drums, all subtly contorted by electronic effects, Nyberg ties together his far-flung influences of nordic folk, contemporary classical, and post-rock music with ingenuity and grace, creating a fiercely imaginative piece.
