I first came to Bulgaria in 2011 and was captivated by the rich culture and vibrant traditions. I immersed myself into the local lifestyle raising animals and tending my garden. The warm hospitality and generosity of the locals was something I had not come across back in the UK. Someone was always popping round with a gift from their garden or some delightful food they had made.
The local market has always been one of my favourite places to go. The stall holders are so welcoming and love to chat making you feel you belong. It is a weekly ritual to go there and support the local traders.
As you travel around the country exploring you are amazed at the beautiful scenery. On the east coast you find the sandy beaches of the popular holiday resorts which are packed in the Summer months. Going inland there are stunning mountain ranges, huge reservoirs and many rolling hills. The capitol of Bulgaria is Sofia which is a vibrant modern city.
